Wouldn't reversing the movement - even a couple of minutes - damage the movement in an automatic?

That's a myth (generally).

In a regular automatic there are no issues winding time backwards as long as you are outside of the time when the date change mechanism would be partially engaged.

There are certain complications where winding time backwards is an absolute no-no - minute repeaters for example, but otherwise it's no problem.

Interesting! I'm not sure what is going on under the dial because the backlash can ususally be negated by doing what I suggested. Anyway, your solution to always stop it at a certain point on the seconds subdial that produces synchronization between the seconds bit and the minute hand is certainly one simple way to do it.

hi, i have a blackbird with big date and the same problem - some days, the units date wheel seems to incompletely move - the figure is not well alligned with the 10 unit wheel, it stays like that all day and , the same night, at 23.30 it moves to the next date and at 0.00 to the next one, practically, between 23.00 and 24.00 moving 2 days ahead.

could you please help me with a piece of advice ?

Already answered by PM.

It needs to go to Breitling to fix a broken date wheel.

I am not sure to have precised that it does not happen at the same dates, but absolutely at random.I manually move the time in series of 24 hours, and there are cycles of 2-3 days/ dates when the date chages normally, and, suddenly, when the two figures are not centered, next night it chages two days/units, first after 23.30 and second after 0.00. some people say that if it is random, it might not be damaged the date wheel....what do you think ?

Sounds damaged to me irregardless of the frequency or randomness. The date wheel should line up perfectly, and if on some days it does not, then it signifies damage and needs to go back to Breitling for service.

:yeahthat

If the date doesn't line up, and can get two days ahead of itself there is only one conclusion - it's broken! Doesn't matter if it's every day or only some days, that's not right.

I very much doubt that it is 'random', if it happens some days and not others then it likely just means that the bent / broken tooth is in a different wheel.
