I also agree with an earlier poster - Breitling is getting away from it's roots and introducing too many gimmicky watches. The SuperOcean II is a joke as a dive watch - a rubber coated bezel, too small, red, blue, black colors and no lume on the bezel or hour markers? Why would anyone pay $2,700 for a "dive" watch that doesn't have the most basic functions of a dive watch?

Likely the same guy who would buy a P.O. with some color on it!

You have to clarify what you mean by “dive watch.” As a scuba watch the Superocean II is indeed worthless. “Dive watch” has evolved into a much broader category of watches that are more a “style” with high W/R as opposed to pure scuba dive watches contemlated by ISO 6425.

Brands have come to recognize the dive watch platform has become very popular to consumers, most of whom will never strap it on a wet suit. It has become synonymous with sport watch to most consumers and the brands have provided supply to meet that demand. They are “outside and swim watches.” Perhaps skin diving watches, but with ISO 6425++ W/R.

Using that definition the SOII fits the bill. And respectfully so does the P.O. I had a P.O. and it’s a great watch, but if I’m putting a wet suit, BC, and tank on, I am not strapping on a P.O. either.

It’s fair comment to dislike the SOII for a rubber bezel insert or God forbid – color on the rehaut, but not so fair to criticize it as not being a dive watch. The vast majority of SS Swiss dive watches are never worn or intended to be worn diving (though they will withstand it). They are really a new category entirely - a crossover of sorts, driven by demand.

I get what your saying about a "Dive Watch" is more about fashion than function lately, but I do agree with Drtymrtini about the SOII not being a dive watch. The way I see it, if it doesn't have a Lume Pip, or any other lume on the bezel, so you can use the bezel to time a dive in the dark then I don't see it as a "Dive Watch". A sport watch, sure, but not a proper dive watch. The PO on the other hand does have this, as you well know, so I can see it being more functional as a dive watch, even though I guess most people will use a dive computer, so this really is just arguing over semantics. Why did I bother to type this? :?

We aren't big fans of censorship here, no reason to lock all the time that debate isn't solely personal attacks and we thankfully seem to have moved away from that.

If no one feels that there is more to say then this thread will quickly disappear down and off the first page.

'Unsubscribe' is always an option, too. I've considered it, as this thread has gotten horribly dull since the personal attacks stopped.

Yea, it's much more fun and entertaining when people flex their internet muscles and start swinging at each other :argue: . I enjoyed watching you two go at it. I also enjoyed it when the king of "sales" jumped in to offer his insight on AD's inability to close and probe for customer needs. Let's face it, who really NEEDS a watch, we're talking about a piece of jewelry. Jewelry, we're takin bout JEWELRY. Just a crazy thread....but it was a fun ride  .

I know better than to argue with a lawyer :poke:

Well I actually found this thread kinda entertaining, and not just because of the little :argue: and the :soapbox: but I find it very interesting to see what other peoples' perspectives are.

Let's not or I will lock it.

This is the Breitling forum, we have a General Watch section if you wish to discuss other brands. This site exists for all members and the vast majority will not appreciate general watch discussions when they come looking for Breitling topics. If threads evolve that's one thing, but no need to be silly about it.
