In any case, you can order a saphire crystal from Panerai and easly have it installed, in fact I expect IWW will start offering taht service.

Assuming of course that Panerai will make a sapphire crystal for that case size!

Based on this chart it looks to be comparable to SS Altair.

Look at that, for some reason I thought bronze was heavier than stainless

Thanks for the link.

Wow. I really like that 372 in particular, that's beautiful.

Can't agree with most of you about the plexiglass, I think it's great. Yeah it can scratch, but guess what scratches even more easily? Polished Panerai bezels do. So you have to baby it even if it does have sapphire.

:yeahthat I agree, couldn't keep the scratches off my 005 in the little time I had it. Spent more maintenance time on my polished Panerai than my Speedmaster hesalite. Didn't expect that.

Just a little more info on the cons and pros of Plexiglass, it IS far more shatter resistant than Saphire, in fact its bullet proof! I guess thats why they make jet cockpits out of the stuff.

It is also exceptionally easy to remove scratches as Roff said, and is very inexpensive to replace. Also, Panerai include at least one extra Plexi glass with each of their equipped models ala 249 Cali. A new one costs 190 USD Vs 900 USD for a replacement Sapphire.

For those who have not owned watches with Plexiglas, the look is a warmer, more character rich, and constitutes more of an element ina watch. Saphire has more sterile look and is supposed to be as invisible as possible, both have their places but generally speaking Plexiglass is more of an element of a watch than sapphire is, with a large crystal such as the 3mm on the 372 the large Plexiglas will have allot of character and add allot to the overall look of the watch, on the downside it will have less readability than a sapphire crystal and with the increased hight, will defiantly be prone to more hairline scratches.

Agreed. I've owned a hesalite Speedy and a sapphire Speedy, and the difference was noticeable. In fact I sold the sapphire because I never quite loved it the same way, as much as I tried, and I'm pretty sure this was because of the crystal.

The second pic really shows how awesome the new case is! I love how much character it has when the Panerai bezel sits on the Radiomir base and then topped off with that huge Plexi!!! Not to mention the warmer look and the tan numerals when you do get to the dial AWESOME!

A bit of good news for you guys afraid of the new size, the watch wears smaller than other 47MM Luminors such as the fiddy due to the Rad base and the relatively thinner lugs. People are reporting it wears closer to 45-46mm.
