What do you guys think of this watch? I originally tried this watch on about two years ago at my local AD. At the time he was dropping the brand from his store and was offering 50% off...even at a 10k list I didn't want to pay 5k plus tax. I just found one used at a huge discount and I jumped on it. It has a modified UNITAS manual movement, double retrograde function, 2nd time zone, power reserve indicator, and fits me very nicely. I know ML has terrible resale value but at the price I paid I think it's a win. I've always thought that ML does a nice job on their Masterpiece Collection. Photos borrowed from seller. Unfortunately, the SOHC LE might be going bye bye as I find my tastes trending toward smaller watches that actually fit me properly and the long lugs of the SOHC don't work for me :( Or the Rose Gold B01...we'll see.

So you went for it? Congrats man, it's one pretty watch. That dial looks amazing, and I know how much you love some Roman Numerals.

Nice watch. I never knew it was a manual wind. The problem for me would be that I'd be playing with it too much to see the retrograde hands jump back.

I also never knew that the retail on it was so high. Congrats on the good deal.

Sorry to hear about the sohc le. I know how much you love that watch. I definitely know what you mean about the long lugs.

I have a Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece MP6318 from 2003 and LOVE it. The quality and finish are amazing (especially the movement decoration). I am so impressed with the brand I am looking to purchase another Masterpiece. Congrats and wear it in good health!

Interesting dial IMO. I've looked at some of the retrograde models in the Longines line but wasn't sure if I liked the texture on their dial design. I really like blued hands/indicators on silver/white dials though and this ML model looks pretty good, although some might say a little busy with all those hands (may be just right without the 2nd timezone indicator).

Seems like a couple members have talked about going a little smaller in size lately. My last two purchases have been smaller also, just never got used to the heavier/thicker models I guess.

I think the movement decoration is amazing. Really interesting complications and the manual wind aspect is a great way to interact with the watch.

I feel like this and you IWC 7 Day are aesthetically similar however. I'd' think the blue hands and creme dial paired with the croc strap might not offer a different look on your wrist. Is that the case?

Very Fair point, I gave that some serious consideration because of the blue hands and white dial but i think the shape of the case & lugs, texture of the dial, and dial layout, give them enough differences to get equal an amount of wrist time....and I love white dial dress watches!!

Good Catch! You are right. Given what you paid for it you should not lose anything if you sell it sometime in the future. I would think that it is a "keeper" though.

Prior to sending the PayPal payment for the watch I asked the seller if he was the original owner to which he emphatically replied YES. I felt comfortable with the seller and his polite answers so I paid through PayPal this morning. Later on in the afternoon, I did some research and found his sales post on TZ-UK and he wrote that he took this watch in on a trade....so I asked him how that could be if he was the original owner :?: He came up with a story that he sold it 3 weeks ago and took it back from the buyer on a trade because the buyer wanted his Omega and he is now selling it again. OK, I was fine with that answer; it seemed to make sense so I didn't ask for a refund, I was perfectly OK letting the deal go through. 6 hours go by and just now I get an email from PayPal that funds were refunded....no heads up from the seller just a refund through PayPal. I asked the seller what happened and he said that he is keeping the watch because he didn't appreciate that i questioned him about being the original owner. What a horrible seller!!! J111dja is his screen name, I wouldn't recommend anyone doing biz with him. I'm so effin pissed right now.

EDIT: He continued to blame it on being offended that I was asking him for clarification on his post, then in his next email he blamed it on the Royal Mail not allowing for enough insurance, then in his next email he blamed it on his cold/flu and lack of sleep, then proceeded to continue emailing me after I repeatedly told him that his replies are no longer welcomed.

Yeah, a little fit is what happens when you call a guy on his lying. It is a BIG difference to me if the seller has been only owner vesus a prior owner. Equally important as a seller to be able to honestly represent either I am only owner or someone before me owned it.

A few weeks back someone inquired about my Skyland. Took pics - same as on my recent sales thread - and then he sarted finding "faults" not present, so I told him he's should find a seller who could do an in person deal. He then pleads for me to sell it to him. I agree and then he insists on a 3 day "on approval." I decline. He emails me back and calls me disreputable.

Morale - life would be boring without the weirdos.

Now he's blaming it on the royal mail only allowing him to insure the package for $750 and it's too risky to ship to the US. And this is someone who proclaims himself as an experienced seller on TZ-UK. I'm so fired up right now!!!

It's disappointing for sure, but give yourself a gold star for doing your homework on the piece and discovering the truth. TZ's feedback section is on Chrono24 fwiw.
