Newbie Here!!!! I purchased a 2 yr old just out of warranty Super Avenger and its running really really slow....like 30-45 mins per day.....the guy i bought it from probably knew it....but its too late to deal with him.....i'm kinda just wondering if i'm doing something wrong on my end....i winded it 40 times like the booklet says...i'm checking it now with my Iphone lap timer....it seems to be running right on time in minutes with that...16 mins so far.....i think it starts to slow up after a few hours....how much does Breitling charge for a service?.....i already had it buffed out so it looks brand new

A basic service will run $250 or so. It definitely needs it, you aren't going to correct a problem like that with a regulation, and if it were mine I would not be running it at all - you could be causing more damage. Your costs may be higher if there is damage that needs correcting.

how should i stop the watch?...pull the crown out all the way and leave it out?......how are independant watch guys?.....i know there's a bunch of independant Rolex guys that are pretty good....is it the same with Breitling?

Just let it run down - if you pull the crown out you risk knocking it and bending the crown stem.

I wouldn't let anyone who isn't authorised by Breitling anywhere near it. No one else has access to Breitling parts and if the watch ever goes to Breitling in the future they will charge you to undo the work that an independent has done.

I have a brand new SA (2 weeks old)and I have had two instances of running slow. One a week after purchase where it was 12 minutes slow and the second two nights ago where it was two hours behind! The AD wound it at time of purchase and I wound it after the second incidence. AD requested we wait another week before determining if I have a problem. I do not take the watch off except for showers. ........could my daily routine not generate enough kinetic energy not keep the reserve full? I am hoping the incidence of a bad movement is extremely rare or should be non existence for a 5k watch. Any comments welcome

12 minutes in a week, and then 2 hours in another week is definitely indicative of a problem if the watch was fully wound when you bought it and has been worn basically 24/7 since (except for showering). You would have to be pretty sedentary for your daily routine not to be enough to keep an automatic watch running. I have an office job and I take my watch off at night and for playing sport or doing DIY, and I've never found my routine not to be enough to keep any of my autos running.

The only other thing I would suggest doing is giving it a full wind yourself and testing it again, as there is a chance that the AD didn't wind it fully. You can't overwind an automatic so give it 50, 60, or even 100 full winds and then wear it and see what happens. If it's still losing, then it'll need a trip to Breitling, but if you bought it new from an AD it will be covered under the warranty.

Thanks! Wound it 50 times and we will see. AD was called me promptly and clear that any problem would be corrected. Bought in st. Thomas from Little Switzerland so I hope I do not have a problem. I suspect and hope winding is the issue. Thanks again for the response!

With a loss like that the immediate suspicion is that it is stopping so I would be checking to make sure that any loss is consistent over time as opposed to all at once. I would also be testing to see whether the automatic winding is working properly - full wind and then leave it on the side until it stopped to get a baseline of the reserve and then full wind, wear for a day and leave it again to see how long it runs to gauge whether the reserve is increasing (and by how much) from the day of wear.

Great idea and makes sense low power reserve. Thanks will give it a whirl if any other problems arise after the current wind.

So after a good winding and seven days all is good. Running consistently fast ~3 sec a day which appears to be in line with COSC standards. Going to just leave alone and see where it goes. Assume if I have a reserve problem I would lose time as before. Will keep monitoring......thanks again for all the feedback.

So last night I used my crono to time cooking the meat on the grill. I stopped the crono (do not remember what time but around the time of the incedence). Then at 7:50 I look at my watch and the time is 7:24!!! Did not see if the watch had stopped but reset the crono the watch was running and set the time to the atomic clock. I am obviously going to call my AD but wanted to get your guys thoughts. Forgive my incorrect technical terms.

1. Is the crono movement totally independent of the time movement?

2. Could the hands of the crono interfer with the time hands? This appears not too probable as I have used the crono before without incident. (Except for effect on the reserve)

3. Could I have not pushed the crono stop button fully causing an issue?

4. As I do not remember if I actually stopped the crono could the crono stopped on its own?

1 - No, in fact it's completely integrated.

2 - No, although it will add additional friction to the running train which may make any inherent issue more noticeable.

3 - Not very likely.

4 - Only if the power reserve ran out.

I have been running the crono off and on various times with no effect. Last night I ran the crono for eight hours and the watch lost 5 seconds. The watch usually runs fast. The crono ran over night while I was asleep with the watch on. Should the crono cause the watch to run slow? Thanks!!

If you think that the watch has a problem get it checked by an AD - it's not going to fix itself!!!

Running the chrono will affect the rate of the watch, there are too many variables involved to say that it will run fast or slow, that will depend on individual circumstances, but it will run differently.
