Well I was shocked with what Breitling were offering recently and then the Navitimer Caliber 01 was announced and I changed my mind.

With the fact that my Navitimer Caliber 01 was released from quality control with two defects and now this, I seriously think it's time to switch brands.

Damn, I really wish now I'd bought the IWC Portuguese Auto instead of that bloody defective Navitimer I've been lumped with! I'm really pissed off that I haven't had a chance to wear it more than a few hours in almost a month.

What's wrong with your Nav 01 Stef?

IWC is not without controversy atm either, FYI.

It has a defective chrono which jumps the minute hand randomly and the red chrono second has a chip in the coating.

Hi Guys,

an orange one with a "normal" (steel or black rubber) bezel wouldn´t be too bad.

(rather orange than red to better read it in the dark cockpit..)

and make em in satin finish!

I'm very sorry to hear that Stef! Not good news at all. I hope all is in order soon.

As I posted in the other thread, I really really like the skyracer, it brought me to Breitling in the first place and I really really dislike those two monstrosities. Such a shame. Still if it increases sales for Breilting, all good.

Hmm, I'm actually quite curious by the vehemence displayed here... Rolex has some super fugly models too, yet doesn't seem to produce such doomsday-for-the-brand response?

Imho, Skyracer has always been a niche model -- what's wrong with making it nicher...? Even at the previously "gorgeous" all-SS state, not many here (other than Sharkie) bought one right? So by introducing these candyland bezels, if none of us (yes, me included) will buy a skyracer, what has Breitling got to lose?

As far as the colors go, anyone seen the Alaska Omega??

Ugh

I can't imagine WHO would want to pay top price for those and have the gall to wear them in public?

They look cheap, nasty and completely non-swiss. I'm sure we'll see these in the Summer-Fall sales from InterWatches et al

Jeez, I love my white face all stainless Skyracer.

I was kinda pleased when they brought out the rubber bezel, figuring it'd keep mine exclusive and clearly the better looker. But these two are so bad they almost undermine the whole line. :wowzers Keep it up, and the label will suffer in my eyes.

It's not that much more moolah to start looking at Rolex, IWC etc...

I've looked at these again in the cold light of day and I cannot for the life of me figure out the market that Breitling is targetting with these - especially the orange, and especially that shade of orange.

The Zenith Defys were polarizing, but they had a large number of fans because there was something there to appreciate - niche for sure, but it wasn't just weird in your face colours.

I have made no secret of being a fan of niche watches - heck I've been looking at Corum Bubbles and Azimuths, but these pieces just make no sense to me at all. It's one thing to not like the look, but tastes can be individual, but this goes far further - I just don't see where the target market is - it beggars belief that Breitling green lighted these. Frankly it's embarassing and if this is a sign of the future direction then it is going to cheapen the image of the brand far more quickly than in house movements can build the brand up. Can you imagine the reactions in the boardrooms of Breitling's competitors, they must be rolling on the floor with laughter.

Breitling is an independent company, and likely had less resources to survive the recent economic downturn, this is starting to look like desperate moves from a financially challenged company to generate revenue from any source. We've seen it from Breitling before in the 1970s and we all know how that ended.

Aside from the comedy of the pieces, it's actually quite sad that a brand that I love so much should stoop so low.

:yeahthat :yeahthat :yeahthat Not a single sentence that doesn't express my sentiment. This actually disturbs me - on some emotional level. I sent the photo to my AD late last night. I'm sure they don't know and I can't wait for their reaction. They will not be pleased. Heck, they weren't excited about the SOII, but this "thing"......

Will transformer watches be the big announcement at Basel?

As for who it might target, I live in East Asia and I could see 20ish Japanese, Chinese males with a little money and into the obnoxious factor as a possible market, not that I'm condoning it, mind you. I'll keep my all steel Skyracer, though even it seems a little adulterated now...

Pretty much any brand will have models that at least some people hate, but that's hugely different in my mind to cheapening the entire brand. I don't like rubber bezels or Buck Rogers fonts, but they don't cause me to question the integrity of the brand - these 'cartoonish' pieces do.

The Omega Alaska Project is hugely different in my eyes, an early 1970s piece (so very different design era) that was designed to meet a specific functional need for extreme cold weather performance.

My first post on this thread and I have to say (well I dont have to but) I agree fully with Roff. I have a couple of Speedy Pros, The Alaska Project is a completly different Kettle of seals.

Off to get another sick bucket now (please no more pics of those things....) oh, I rather dislike them.

You know this whole situation really has me thinking now if Breitling cares more about bringing in the (and focusing their attention on) NEW Customers or bring back existing customers.

Watch next we will start to see Breitling commercials and start to mistaken the brand for Omega or something.

Something I took a lot of pride in was not seeing Breitling name everywhere (like Rolex and Omega and Tag)... but this has me thinking commercials and billboard galore will be on the way to attract more attention and that scares me.

My vote on the other thread was it makes me question the brand, not that I would not buy Breitlings or sell my current stock. But a big sale could be fun. :)
