That's true, and the women couldn't be any worse than some of the nutjobs I've dated over the years, although that's bad enough as it is.

I try not to put my Breitling through any unnecessary stress. It's not that hard to take it off before a shower and put it back on after, so I do that. I know you're supposed to be able to wear them for sports and hiking and stuff but I never do because I don't want to risk anything happening to it and it's easy enough to take it off and just use my phone for the time/stopwatch in those cases.

:yeahthat 100% agree. Extremes of temperature do absolutely nothing positive for watches, and chemicals (i.e. chlorine) found in hot-tubs and swimming pools degrade gaskets far quicker than they otherwise would.

I always really struggle to understand why anyone would want to risk a hefty repair bill for their expensive mechanical watch, just for the sake of having a watch on in the sauna. Crazy IMO, but then it's each to their own.

It should be OK. People wear their Lings in the shower. But the more you put it through, the more it will need to be serviced. Hot and wet conditions will tax the gaskets more than just wet conditions will. If you routinely put wear on the gaskets, you will probably need to get them replaced, or at least checked, once a year.

Personally, if it were me, I wouldn't wear it to the gym. For one thing, it risks banging up the watch unnecessarily. For another, it screams, "Hey, check me out, I'm at the gym with a Breitling." Then again, maybe the fact I wear a Nike digital at the gym explains why I'm not meeting any chicks there. So maybe I should start wearing a Breitling. Hmm... :huh

You go to the gym to meet chicks? :poke:

The pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together. Couple this fact with the bling=vagin! theorem, and I think we're on to something here.

Haha what a great read that blinged out Breitling thread turned out to be. Bling = Vagin is the greatest quote I've heard in a while (great as in awesomely aweful).

I don't really see why anyone would wear something other than a sports or outdoor watch (Casio Pathfinder, Suunto, G-Shock, etc.) for rigourous or weather taxing activities other than to attract attention. I mean I can understand if it was an heirloom or something and it has tremendous personal value and you like wearing it as often as possible but still...

I took my Omega hiking once and never again. I was doing a bit of rock climbing/jumping and in the end the rocks won over my Omega and into the lady friends backpack it went for safe harbor.

Well, I certainly don't go there to meet guys. Although if I did, wearing a blinged out Ling in the sauna might prove surprisingly effective.

Haha I hear ya! I thought it was a casual hike on a trail but I found a big waterfall and I can't resist climbing or scavenging over things.

Pool - it has 1000' water resistence so you can wear in in the pool. But I would never where my AS in water for one simple reason - I might accidently depress on of the chrono pushers which could allow water into the watch. The only chronos I wear in water are those with screw down pushers (Chronomat, etc...)

What about the Fishies Skarkie? Won't they stand the pool environment? Or the sea is better (no chlorine)?

all aeromarine models in reality should be able to be worn in a sauna in my own opinion

Well to be fair, the name "aeromarine" implies use at sea, and the Aeromarine range is eminently capable of being used at (and under the) sea. The sea doesn't have chemicals in it in any great quantities (other than sodium chloride - salt) and it's generally more cold than hot, plus diving also means the watch should resist pressure caused by depth. All of these things the Aeromarine range can cope with because that's what they are designed to do (although you are still advised to wash off salt water in fresh water after using at sea).

In contrast, a sauna/hot-tub is the exact opposite in terms of conditions that you find at sea. Masses of chemicals, extreme heat, no external pressure. The only thing the sea and saunas/hot-tubs have in common is they are both wet - apart from that they are totally different.

It's just chemistry and physics I'm afraid - chlorine and heat degrade rubber that is used in the gaskets to keep it watertight - simple fact. Expecting a water to hold up in conditions that it's not designed for is asking a bit too much IMO.

I'm with Driver8, don't agree with that at all. A sauna is an extremely unnatural environment for any mechanical watch, but worse than that is the sudden change in temperature and humidity when going in / coming out. That's way beyond the conditions that the gaskets are designed to cope with.
