Hi,

Found this site doing some research and looks like I may be able to get some answers here.

I was given a Breitling by my Father and am trying to determine what model and year it is.

On the back it has DDE BR 11525/67
Under that, and it's really hard to read, is 7661 not sure about the 7
And below that, it's almost impossible to read, but I think it is 1317109 not sure about the 13 at the beginning ?

Any help would be appreciated

Hi and welcome to the site.
Some pictures are probably going to be invaluable. If you could post some it would really help. :)

Thanks,

Elwyn

Thanks for the welcome and the reply.

I figured I'd get asked for that, I am charging my camera battery as we type. Should be good in about 30 mins and I'll get some up.

I'm hoping it's a 7651 Co-Pilot.

The Breitling ref 7661 is a Chronomatic Copilot Yachting and dates to 1969. Looks like this one. The back engraving can be hard to see after years of wear.

That's exactly the one.

Why are you hoping that's what it is ?

Because it's a very cool watch and we don't see very many of them.

Well that might explain why I was having trouble finding what it was then.

Is there a way Of telling how old it is ? is there any difference between the ones with 2 red sections on the dial and the one like mine with red and blue

As Paul (vintage) told you it dates to 1969 based on the serial number - nice watch!

I've not seen the yachting ones with two red sections on the countdown subdial, all the ones that I have ever seen had the red and blue.

Actually shows the two red section version in the 1969 catalog page 6:

Oh sorry I understand now, by to 1969 I thought up to 1969, thanks for clarifying.

How does the condition look for something of this age, bearing in mind he wore it a lot, not that I blame him, and are the winders on these normally on the left ?

Yeah, but that's not a yachting version.

Condition looks pretty good, if you don't know when the watch was last serviced then I would get that done just to make sure that everything is OK. The crown should be on the left on chrono-matics.
