And the winner is. :D Is it actually possible to function, as in daily chores, walk the dog, etc. in temps like that.

Whoa! That's crazy cold. That happens to be the temperature at which Celsius and Fahrenheit are the same. It's so cold you've merged the English and Metric system

Yes, of course, it's all about right clothing and don't stand still, one spot. It's only a number on thermometer.

I can function quite well in normal casual cloths 3 layers, t-shirt, hooded top and winter jacket. No standing around thought.

when working outside it involves a fair bit of standing around so the thermal vest goes on and a few more layers!

Out shooting the full deerhunter kit ( shooting cloths) goes on which are really super.

Had a few games of astro turf soccer this week at -8 and was great fun, not when it was my turn in goals though. Full tracksuit on for that and actually was really refreshing!

I guess below - 20 is a different story!

Yeah, but when it gets that cold cars have square tires and the transmission is full of treacle until it warms up!

Nope, sir, no. That's why I have engine and interior heater in my car. And I also have black round winter tyres with full of air 8). I have driven my car in -42C (car's thermo), and I did get on my destination. It was not a fun trip, suspension was hard, everything was stiff and cold was rough to engine but, still, everything worked. It's stupid to start engine without heating it beforehand and diesel is not the best option in these temperatures. And there's always a sauna to use afterwards, to warm up ice body. I wonder, do Breitling use winter oil inside watch .

I have a block heater, and I have nitrogen filled tires for stable air pressure, but when we get that cold I still find that the transmission (manual) is hard to shift.

:supereek: That's the same as been in side my freezer!

And I thought you said you didn't feel -11°C

Cold is leaving for the south for a few days. We expect a very unusual +12°C till the end of the week. What the heck, that will melt the snow remains a little bit.

How does nitrogen keep your air pressure constant in cold weather Roff?

Edit: Apparently there is some benefit.

Yeah, the real advantage is that the nitrogen molecules are larger so don't bleed through the rubber. The other problem with air (so predominantly oxygen) is the relatively high rates of expansion and contraction at different temperatures which is less of an issue with nitrogen.

I'll buy the "larger" and "smaller" argument for O2 and N2 molecules, but the pressure exerted by almost all gasses behaves ideally in response to temperature (PV = nRT).

A video I saw today and maybe something worth trying the next time it's -30C out!

I thought that was about -40C/F (according to the conversion chart on my flight computer).

Suppose to be -15F here tonight, received about 50 inches snow so far this season, probably a good 20 inches on ground (snowbanks a good 4 to 5 feet).
