Hey All,

I went into the only Oregon AD - Carl Greve Jewelers in downtown yesterday thinking (apparently foolishly) that I would see if there were any after holiday discounts to peruse. Well, I was informed "We're all sold out of Breitlings" and when I looked at the saleswoman incredulously asking "Really, when will have you more stock in?" I was told not until at least March. I just moved to the area and apparently this is the only game in town. How very disappointing . Is it just me or a dealer out of stock feels a bit as though they're going out of business? I was hoping to take the lack of sales tax here would work in my favor as spring approaches. I often try to make sure not to dress particularly sharp & just wear my old superOcean when I check out dealers to see how they treat customers that aren't a sure sale and they really were very rude. Anyway, has anyone had an experiences with Carl Greve good or bad

Carl Greve is a sorry excuse for a Breitling AD, and it only adds insult to injury that they are literally the only one in the state, with one lousy location. They used to have two locations, but closed one of them a year or so ago; so your hunch they're not in the best financial shape might have some basis in fact. However, they've never had a good in-store Breitling selection in the years I've known them, so that alone may not be an indicator of their financial solvency. I've given up going there to look at Breitlings, because it's pretty pointless, although I have to admit even I'm surprised to hear they're entirely out for the next three months. That's just stupid. Honestly, you have a better chance of spying a Breitling at your local Costco than you do at Carl Greve; I'm not kidding. The bad news is it means you probably won't have an opportunity to inspect many Breitlings in person before buying. The good news is there are some very good dealers out of state who offer great discounts, full money-back guarantees so you can inspect the watch risk free, and because it would be an interstate purchase, you won't have to pay tax, either. Also, look at it this way: with such a lousy in-state Breitling dealer, you don't see that many people wearing them around here, so it ups the exclusivity factor.

Speaking of costco i just saw a black dial Colt automatic on a proII stainless bracelet for 1800.00! First Breitling i've seen at a costco!

I actually don't mind it so much - my new job moved us from Raleigh NC & I was hesitant at first since I thought the weather would be much worse. I was surprised since it really hasn't been too bad (in fact it's been much better than East coast the past few weeks haha). Other than that, I live in downtown & haven't seen any Bs on anyone so far. Even Portland City Grill and a few nicer places in the Pearl. If you see a guy with a Chrono SA or U Boat on downtown, it's probably me! Thanks for the background on Carl Greve, I was treated so badly I was in shock. I even stopped into Ben Bridge a few weeks ago looking for a rubber strap for the Tag F1 that I want to give to my wife but they haven't called me back either. Do I have to show up in an R8 or something to get decent service downtown ? Which out of state dealers would you recommend? I try to buy myself a present every year and I'd like to start researching prices etc.

Winters here are pretty moderate. We're actually in a cold snap right now, but this is nothing compared to what they get in the midwest or the east. When I moved here from Southern California, I thought winters here were hard. Then I moved to Minneapolis, and realized just how good we have it. The big bugaboo is the gray skies, which last for months at a time. Come spring, those of us who have survived Seasonal Affective Diorder are usually more than a bit stir crazy. The other wacky thing is when we do get hard weather, like ice or snow, the city just shuts down. Nobody knows how to handle it. What's worse, they don't salt the roads, so you take your life in your hands if you decide to drive.

Anyhoo, I haven't had problems with rude service at Carl Greve; it's just their Breitling selection stinks. I'm sorry hear they weren't very nice to you. George Mayer at Govberg Jewelers in Philadelphia is a great guy to go through. I've also heard good things about Provident Jewelry in Florida, although I've not dealt with them personally. A city the size of Portland has ONE Breitling AD????? It was have something to do with the decriminalized weed law. White Castle could open a store on every block!!

I thought 3 (4 locations) for the Phoenix metropolitan area was light.

The whole friggin' STATE has one Breitling AD, in ONE location. By contrast, there are three Rolex dealers in six locations in the Portland area alone, plus five other cities in Oregon have Rolex dealers as well. I don't know what's up with Breitling.

Is location (4) your watch winder?????

BTW, if you ever sell your Montbrillant Olympus, I call dibs.

Ironically, the Costco in Tigard has one for just over $5k.

In order to retain status as an AD sotres are required to retain a minimum stock level. If they now have absolutely no Breitlings then that may be indicative that they are losing their standing as an AD. It's definitely a breach of their AD agreement.

Hmm...I wonder if I should rat them out. I've actually been considering dropping Breitling a note just to let them know it's pretty bleak on the Breitling front here in Oregon. At the moment, Carl Greve is still listed on their website.

Not that bad here in Mpls/St. Paul, gotten about 45 inches of the white stuff this winter. Heck, it's supposed to get above 0 deg. F today!

Actually, it sucks, just waiting for my wife to quit work so we can move south somewhere .

I've only been into Carl Greve once to look at Pateks . . . which they didn't have in stock . . . shocking. I can tell you the Breitling AD isn't much better up in Seattle (Alvin Goldfarb), although they do carry a very large selection of Breitlings. If you're in Seattle, it's worth stopping to try some on. However, do not buy anything from them. As someone else mentioned, buy from George at Govberg's.

I noticed Carl Greve was a Patek dealer when browsing Patek's website a while back, and I wondered what the odds were they would have any in stock. I guess my hunch was right.

When you say Alvin Goldfarb "isn't much better," what do you mean? If they carry a large selection of Breitlings, it would seem they are a lot better than Carl Greve. Or were you referring to snootiness (or price)? Breitling's website also lists Jewelry Design Center in Spokane. Have you had a chance to check them out?
