RJ's breakdown is helpful, but still....all those model numbers. Rain Man was a big Panerai fan.

Panerais do get confusing with all the numbers instead of model names but that's what :google: is for. Whenever I come across a model I'm not familiar with I just google it or find it on their site, it starts to make sense eventually and you'll remember the model numbers you like and the characteristics of those models.

I like the 312, the in-house movement and display back are just awesome, but I really like the base model 000, just a classic PAM and I absolutely love the 005, adds a small seconds hand and the logo on the dial, which is also a sandwich dial, but still leaves the dial looking nice a clean, like I think a PAM should look.

Here is a site that might help a little bit in figuring some of them out...I know it helped me.

I think that we would generally reference our sister site - www.paneraisource.com

I am still looking at all these configurations , and seem to have some homework to do. I may just get one if my bonus pans out , but knowing my company they will give me a umbrella or a mug instead.

I have to admit, I just can not get into the watch line. It just doesn't do anything for me, as is the case with most of the IWC line. As stated before, to each his own and I can easily get on board with that. If I could have the in-house Pan movement in a clear case that would be it. I love the look of their in-house. That is a thing of beauty to me.
Just my two cents but I would look at another watch as your grail but you are the one that is going to pay your money and wear your watch. You have to be happy with the watch so anything anyone has to say should not count.
I'll shut up now, buy what speaks to you.
My grail, PP Nautilus chrono. That will never happen.
Best health, Frank

With regard to the original 60mm Egiziano, the word "Radiomir" actually refers to the particular lum used. So there is actually Egis with "Luminor" on the dial also. But since Panerai invented Radiomir lum, the re-issued modern Pam 341 (mine), has "Radiomir" on the dial, even though the case is now more commonly known as Luminor case.

As far as most Pams looking alike -- can't disagree with that . Then again, if you're not an AP Roo person, all the different versions are confusing -- as do the many, many versions of the basic Sea Dweller Rolex

To the OP, if you're considering Pams, do take some time to look at straps, as that's a tremendous part of the joy of owning a Panerai. I have only 2 Pams, but with about 30 straps, it's difficult for my other watches to find wrist time...

Finally, to all my Breitling Source family, here's wishing everyone a happy and blessed 1.1.11!

Yes, of course. New model of Panerai especially for boutique special edition was crazy.

IMHO the most beautiful Panerai is base (2 hand), hand-wound and solid case (most historic).

You are quickly becoming a member of the cult!!!! I just realized there is no second hand. I hadn't even paid attention to it until just now. That would drive me nuts , to not see that .

lol.. I bought Sharkmans 320 and figured I should do a little bit of research to figure out exactly what I had.

Sounds like you got your 111 mixed up with a 112. The 112 and 000 look similar in pics except for the logo.
