I just saw this and thought is was rather interesting, although I'm guessing some here already know about it. The Montblanc Metamorphosis actually changes its appearance as it transitions from a standard watch to a chronograph. The pic below shows the same watch in its two different phases. Limited to 28 pieces, it's just a tad bit spendy at 195,000 Euros (just over $255,000). Read more about it here.

It's about 18 months old now, interesting concept, but >$200k for a Montblanc, err - No.

Seems to me Montblanc is working to try to change that impression - that they aren't worth it. Having said that, I personally can't think of any watch worth that amount, at least not to me. I suppose if I had money like Bill Gates...nah, it still wouldn't be worth it for a Montblanc - at least not that one. That HM4 is pretty sweet, though, and a real bargain at only $158k.

So Roff, are you getting any closer to getting the weird-watch itch scratched here?

I've certainly got a shortlist, and a few situations that I'm monitoring. Kinda reluctant to pull the trigger right now with SIHH and the Geneva Time Exhibition just a few weeks away.

Man, you're not kidding. I would not want that face staring back at me every time I looked at my wrist.

Man, that thing is sweet. I'd be playing with it, too, which makes me think it might end up having to go in for repair once a week or so. I don't even want to think what those bills might run.

That may just exceed the budget ever so slightly......

It is a very novel watch, although spending that much on a novelty watch is a little bizarre for me. I guess others would say the same about the MB&Fs that I like though.....

Would it be safe to say you probably can buy a few MB&Fs with the money you drop on the slot machine GP?

Yeah, but what other watch will let you walk up to a woman and say, "Here, pull on my rod and see if you're a winner"?

You be sure to let us know how you make out with that line.

One of each (so far) with some reasonable negotiation.

The problem with any watch like that though is that it stops being about the watch. There's a point, and I'm not sure what the $ level is, where the watch is simply an investment, and watches are just flat out bad investments. I have no problem buying niche watches, and I also don't mind spending a fair amount of money on it, but $600k+ on a watch is just downright lunacy to my mind unless it's a proven, documented piece that is a good investment - a one off PP 99 times out of 100.

I would have to agree with you too Roff... 600k on a watch is in my opinion lunacy...

How about $440k for this magnificent piece of art work?

Now that's an investment!
