My SA 563 :lingsrock: was chosen for the matching colour of the car..........

I love this car, even though I prefer the Sovereign V12-engine edition.

It even saved my life once when I was 17. My uncle was driving his mustard-colored Sovereign (what a despicable color that was!) and we hit a wild goat on the island of Corfu. Poor animal, hit on my side of the car.

That looks in fantastic condition! And I bet that plate cost a tidy penny! :)

Driver i do keep it up to scratch, i show the car at Jaguar and Daimler shows also i just retired from running the forum on line for that model..........the plate would indeed buy me another Ling if i sold it....the colour was in 1999 a bespoke colour, a dead match for my SA 563 not a bad coincidence when i bought my Ling....... :yeahthat

Which engine did you have on your XJS Roff? V12, H.E.?

In the UK vanity plates can be bought and sold and the price is dependent on the appeal of the plate.

So what makes a plate more/less desirable? Is the color or lettering more coveted?

It's the combination of letters / numbers - colours are standard white front and yellow back.

I think you can transfer them from one car to the next when you get a new one, too, although obviously that costs more money. My aunt had a vanity plate-- when she sold her car, she let the plate go with it because it was too much bother and expense to change it to her new car.

...I'm not seeing why this particular plate is so expensive, but I'm pretty sure that has a lot to do with my complete inability to comprehend l33t style writing.

Hi guys the reason my plate appears to be an expensive one is that it represents the engine format......ie...V engine with 4 ltr capacity....the ideal scenario would be V8 4LTR.... V8 engine with 4litre capacity...but that format is not a recognised format..so its not available.....as this plate would be originally issued in 1999 or near its a lot different to the plate issued on the car originally.which represented nothing in particular but some guys get their initials or name on older plates ....its a status thing and a new plate tells the year of manufacture, plates are issued by the licencing authority and not by choice unless one that is an older registration plate than your current one............you cannot request a number or registration newer than your current vehicle..as the prefix numbers changed and were at times after the number.......so any spare or scrapped car numbers are for sale.
Some "cherished plates" as they are known go for thousands of pounds........A1 for example i think went for £200,000
HM the Queen doesn't have to show a number on her state limo that's the only one in the UK allowed to do that.....all her other Royal vehicles have to be licenced and show a number plate. Its complicated to outsiders but it can be profitable if you buy a car with a plate that's got some history or a set of initials that you like............

I saw it started with V and my first thought was that it referred to the engine, but then thought that no one would be proud enough about a V4 to get it on their plate, and I don't think they'd put one in a Jag anyway, so I assumed the 4 was supposed to be an A...
