You'll take a resale value hit on 99% of the watches out there. There are very few that hold their value and there are a couple that can actually increase in value; Breitling is not either of the two. Yes, you will take a hit on the resale value if you decide to sell it, just like a car, as soon as you buy it you can kiss some value goodbye.

If you're buying it from an AD negotiate a good discount, I'd say 30% off would be very good. If you're buying pre-owned, find out what the original retail value is and then offer 45% - 50% less....that way you'll cut your losses if you ever decide to sell it down the road.

so really the best thing to do is to purchase a watch that you really like and plan to keep for a long, long time. A collector once told me to buy the watch because you like it, not because it may be a good investment or hold value. And like you said, 90% will take a hit in value similar to buying a new car.

I think that's a good policy. Some people like to flip watches a lot, so resale is important to them. Personally, I always buy a watch thinking it's a permanent addition to the collection, and thus choose watches I think are worthy of that belief. It doesn't always work out that way, but it's what I strive for, at least.

But what about the top of the line SOH LE? Am I going to take a hit, if I decide to unload it in 3-5 years?

Ryan

I would also like to know about resale value of the LE, the white and blue face are still for sale new. I think the black will hold the most value, any idea of prices (-% of new value) of the SOHC 125th aniversary in a few years?
