Seems like there are plenty of positive things said about the model, and the big date is sort of the icing on the cake.

It may be a bit of a treasure hunt to come across the model I have in mind, but that is all part of the hunt I guess. Not like it is a LE or anything, so...

Anybody know what finishes were offered on the SS case with gold rider-tab/crown versions? Was the SS case polished or brushed? What about the bezel?

No it's not too small.

So I am guessing that all the praise for the 22mm Pilot bracelet apply to this one as well?
Obviously a brown croc would also be standard issue, but I really want to give Breitling's bracelets a try.

Watches Unlimited has a blackdial two tone Cockpit for sale . It has been on their webpage for some time now so they may be open to an offer . I bought a Lady J from them a few months ago and was very happy with it . I bought it because they are a " Breitling Source trusted online dealer " .
I have the older style Cockpit and it is may favorite Breitling . Even though I am used to the 44mm Steelfish , the Cockpit still doesn't feel small .

The other issue might be the flip side of "versatility", which is that the watch might just not have enough identity for people to consider it.

Good point. I can't say I would even have looked this direction for my first or second Ling. Being that most "Normal" people would stop at a couple of nice watches I can certainly see there being a small market.

That being said....It sure has a lot of fan fare for a model probably considered a third or fourth Breitling. :lingsrock:

I have always been interested in adding a white dial face to the regular rotation, and MOP dial w/ gold rider tabs and crown might be a nice change from the black/white of the Navi.

Here you go...My first Breitling was (still is actually since I still have it!) a Cockpit. MOP dial, Gold rider tabs on a SS/Gold bracelet. Great watch dress or sport and gets compliments whenever I wear it.

Very very nice indeed Iland. :lingsrock:

Pity the little B on the seconds hand is on the hour hand on both of your bigger pics. It sure would have added something.

Hmmm...Didn't even realize it. I'll have to be more careful next time!

The manufacture date and dial color code numbers are between the 6 o'clock lugs.

I know, but I've never had the bracelet off.

Dredging up an old subject...Is there any way to get a Cockpit bezel put on a Galactic? More specifically, assuming the Galactic case and the Cockpit bezel are compatible, is a switch something Breitling would ever do, or are would that be an aftermarket-only option that would pretty much mess it up for future service by Breitling?

Breitling won't do it because it affects the integral design of the watch. You'll get almost the same effect by just buying a Cockpit though.

That's pretty much what I figured. I actually like the newer design of the Galactic dial over the most recent Cockpit, which is why I asked. Plus, I don't know how hard it would be to track down a Cockpit at this point. But, after having seen more "live" pictures of the Galactic, I'm inclined to think the newer bezel actually goes OK with the dial anyway; if Breitling had used a brushed bezel, like they do on the Galactic 36, I think it might actually look pretty nice.

While I'm on the subject, I've done some poking around online, and the more I see of the older Cockpit 41 style with the concentric rings, the more I like it. What are the reference numbers for the slate gray dial and the black dial, respectively? I'd like to know the numbers in case I end up calling dealers trying to scour one up. The one I'd go for is the black dial with concentric rings, in all stainless, on a Pilot bracelet.

Jomashop lists a slate gray dial and two different black dials (both look similar in pictures). All are listed as model A4935011. The slate gray has a secondary number of F523SS. One black dial has a secondary number of B779SS and is listed as being from the Cockpit series; the other is B912SS and is listed as being from the Cockpit 2008 series. Are these the same watch from two different production lots, or are they different in some way? Other than some slight contrast variations in the pictures, which appear to be due to lighting differences, I can't tell any difference between them.

Pictures included for reference. For sh*ts and giggles, I've included a picture of a Galactic 41, just for comparison. I'm interested to hear your reactions.
