Agreed, I don't think it's as much about literally getting your hands on the money without leaving yourself short for bills and discretionary items higher in priority, it's more about feeling something is
worth the money. I can understand cost of materials increasing prices of items currently being made that will be available for sale later, but for those in-store? That bothers me.
That said, I'm sure there are people who save hard for their occasional luxury purchases because those items are important to them-- they really care specifically about watches/automotive accessories/whatever, and put money aside for those items weekly or monthly, and I've heard stories of people who had just about accumulated the cost of certain items when the price went up and they could no longer afford it, which I think is a little saddening.
IMO, so long as you're not leaving yourself or your family short for the necessary things, there's nothing wrong with having a few luxury aspirations, but others may disagree.
