:yeahthat

I read all of the questions that the seller was asked. Some people were offering less than 10k, obviously trying to take advantage of the guy. Good thing the Rolex buffs tipped him off with a bidding frenzy.

I love the fact the guy used to hang out with Christopher Reeve.

I read the comments from the auction while at work, but it is way cooler that the story took and someone gave us the complete backstory.

Good for him.

It's nice to see that occasionally the good guys win - really glad for him.

HOLY COW!!!! I just went to the auction for another look, and he is located in McGreggor, TX which is about 10 minutes from where I live. I may have to drop him a line and offer to take him for coffee just for the stories

Very cool story. I first saw this on George's website- Breitling Report.

It kills me how mean-spirited some of the reader comments have been on the blogs reporting this. Some people will sh*t on anything.

By no means do I want to take away from the great stories, but seriously, $66k for that watch? Really? REALLY?

I'm a watch geek - probably not as much as some people on this board, but there are much more rare finds and much more unique watches than that one to be had.

Good for him, but I'd be curious to see what this watch sells for 5 years from now.

Awesome story.

66k might seem like a lot to some, but like any it is a relative number. It's not a lot to many.

There are watch geeks, and then there are brand geeks. I'm guessing whoever decided to shell out 60+ large on that watch was a specific brand of Rolex geek. I'm not saying I'd pay it, even if I were able (which I'm not), but there's no accounting for taste.
