Hi All-
I just joined since I have been so impressed with the wealth of information here. I am in the market for my first "real" watch. Have decided on a Breitling based on always being impressed by those owned by my friends. Have some sort of calling to the brand....anyway, think my watch will be a Steelfish. Was set on the Avenger originally but its just too big after I saw one in a store. I have average sized hands/wrists about 7.5" and am just over 6' tall. I looked at the Colt GMT and liked them a lot. But like the Steelfish more and everything I read seems to say I will wish I went a little bigger in the long run...so I am trusting that a bit.

Think I like the silver/white faced Steelfish with the leather band best. Seems like a watch that will suit a lot purposes and is reasonably affordable. I really like the leather band option and the blue/black don't seem to look right to me on leather. But black seems a little "safer" for some reason to me...

Anyone here from New England and have any thoughts on good ADs? Have seen the recommendations in the other threads for out of state. I have looked at the list on the Breitling site but figured I would check in here. I would like to buy local (i'm close to NH so could get the sales tax benefit). But also seems like there may be better deals with an out of state AD or internet location referenced here....

Sorry for the ramble. But thanks for the help!

SuperOcean Steelfish white dial with a brown croco on deployant is a beautiful first piece. Not too big, not too heavy, great start!

Can't tell you about the AD though.

Start with the 'tame' ADs here - Govberg is a sponsor of the site and you can contact for the famous George through jnelson3097, or contact FEAR for contact details at Provident. Both are ADs and will be out of state for you.

Thanks Folks-
Saw both those names frequently browsing through...

Saw this on ebay tonight....does that look legit? As a newbie, let me know if we don't post stuff like that here..

Buying something like that on ebay scares me a bit. But seems like a good deal and I would get a leather strap elsewhere. Of course I would rather have a new one!

Thanks again for the quick and friendly responses....

Looks real to me. There is a whole section for replica identification here so feel free to post any that you find there.

It's generally preferred to buy the watch complete with all the boxes and paperwork that came along with it when it was new.

If you are not sure about the purchase, go make a post in the replica identification forum and rest assured based on the opinions of the experts there.

I used to live in Rhode Island and had an office in Franklin MA. Spent a lot of time in Boston, and the surrounding area, on business and would always take a walk through Copley Place and visit Tourneau while there. Tourneau doesn't get good press around here though, but the Copley Place store was always packed with selections. I think they tend to discount less than your average AD might, although I have bought a few watches from there in the past and felt OK with my negotiations. They have one at the Burlington and maybe Natick Malls too, I think. I've been to Long's Jewelers too, but never bought there, but they have a number of locations in MA and have been in business for years. Ross Simons, which is based out of RI always used to have a great selection, but I was visiting the area over Thanksgiving and took a spin through the Providence Place Mall to take a peak at what they had, but the Breitling selection was terrible. I couldn't believe what a small, crappy selection they had. I've got a buddy who lives in Manchester NH, I'll PM him later to get his thoughts for you. Frankly the selection in New England isn't that good. There are some pretty good connections with ADs on this forum that you might want to think about. Avoids tax too.

It's real, but fairly old and for a few hundred more you can get a new one with assurance it has never been messed with by someone. A new Steelfish is an amazing watch for the $$. I've talked to George at Govberg and purchased through Fear and Provident. Nothing but good things to say.

Good luck and welcome :lingsrock:

Thanks all. Incredible response from everyone. Have heard from FEAR and jnelson...thanks to both. Sounds like I definitely have some options. Appreciate the support...I agree, I would rather buy new and know what I am getting...

I did go to the Longs in Burlington MA but wasn't impressed with the selection or their knowledge. I was thinking Barmakians in Nashua but that may just be for window shopping as it sounds like I can get a better deal elsewhere.

Thanks again for the warm welcome-

I was at the Tourneau at the Natick Mall last week. Surprisingly good customer service (I was expecting something like the horror stories I've heard). Ask for Jeffrey.
