Who gives a crap that a rapper talks about owning a Rolex. That's probably the dumbest reason not to buy a Rolex that I've ever heard. Half the rappers I see in magazines are sporting blinged out Breiltings, you gonna sell your "B" now? You not gonna drive a Benz or a Caddy or a BMW because Jay-Z sings about them? I'm sorry, I get that you don't like Rolex, but that is just a ridiculous reason for not liking them., but you're entitled to your opinion.

I thought that Rolex was overpriced at first, but after actually taking time to learn about the watches that they make and how they make them I've realized that you're not just paying for the name, but what goes into making the watch.

Anyway, to the OP, I currently own a BB, not the red strike which I really don't like, but a regular one that I absolutely love. That being said, I'd trade it for a GMTIIC in a heartbeat. I get that the Chrono function is cool, but I honestly think the GMT function is more practical, for me at least, and I just really love the watch. I like it in pics, but when I actually got to try one on I was blown away. Both are amazing watches, but the GMTIIc is one of the nicest watches I've ever had the pleasure of putting on my wrist.

Great new album by the way. Might be the best of the year in my eyes

I'm sure it is in Kanye's eyes, too.

If you read my earlier posts roman, I stated the reasons I don't own a Rlex earlier. As I said before, I like Rolex. They do things a lot better than many manufacturers out there. I just don't like thier styling, so I don't own one.

My comments are intended to show how the general public who knows very little of the industry choses to use the word Rolex to describe a fancy watch. It's not at the same level but similar to when someone says to Google something actually meaning to search for it on the internet. Now that's brand recognition. Read Kanyes quote again and you might get what I/him are trying to say.

For the record, there are way more rappers with Breitling than Rolex I'm in agreement with you, but has nothing to do with my point.

Kno's recent release is better than Kanye's cover to cover IMO, but for some reason his antics always seem to be rewarded. Obama was correct in his assertion Kanye is a jackass.

I wish I could honestly ask that about all musical performers who rub me the wrong way. I would consider it blissful ignorance.

BB all day every day! No contest!
The Rolex is just about as boring, uninspiring and unimaginitive piece of a metal possible. Hate the cyclops too.

I'm a BB owner, so maybe I'm a little biased, and while I really like the Rolex, I agree with others who call it uninspired and run of the mill. It is a pretty watch, but I don't find anything about it being remarkably "special."

I chose a Breitling because everyone I know buys a Rolex when they can afford a nice timepiece...and after a lot of initial research, I was happy with my decision to go with the BB. I like it just as much today as I did the day I bought it.

I'm also not a fan of brand ambassadors and really could not give a hoot whether or not a rap star, celebrity, or my priest is sporting a specific brand...I buy what I like.

The other thing I don't like about Breitling, Rolex, Omega, etc. is that you'll never have a problem getting a specific model you are looking for. Rolex plays games like Harley used to saying that production is limited, but the reality is that if there is demand and they can keep creating imaginary waiting lists, they'll keep making whatever watch you want.

Not sure whether I should tip more fuel on this particular fire, but...

You guys criticising the styling of the Rolex realise it was the original, don't you? The reason it looks so familiar is because it's an iconic design that had been around for decades, was way ahead of its time, and has been much imitated.

If you want to be critical of a design because you don't like it aesthetically, or it looks too familiar for your tastes, then that's entirely valid, but it doesn't seem fair to call it unimaginative because it's been copied a lot.

Otto, no fire here. That´s a very valid point. I did think about that, just not sure it´s so, but if it is. I´ll drop the unimaginitive and ad bland to my earlier statement.
=just not to my taste and would not reflect me in any way.

I do have a lot of respect for the brand, their heritage, craftmanship, innovation, marketing and all that, but both their style and image is very off putting for me.

Does the GMT-Master IIc have a hack seconds feature for setting the time? I've seen some videos on Youtube that show the seconds hand stop when setting it, whereas others show it continuing to move.

I don't know if I'm implicated in this statement, since I wasn't criticizing the design so much as making academic arguments about Rolex prices relative to other brands. But I will point out that I actually like the designs of the newest Submariner and GMT-Master IIc. There aren't many other Rolex models I like, but those two do strike my fancy, especially the newer designs with the ceramic bezels, larger lugs and larger crown guard. And I agree with you - the Sub design was the original. It's getting harder for me to look at sport bezels on other brands without being reminded where that design came from in the first place.
