Hi all,

I am thinking about buying my first Breitling and have come across this:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14509155/DSC_0035.jpg
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14509155/DSC_0037.jpg

What do you think? Real or fake?

Regards.

Well. A17360 is the reference number for a Steelfish however the dial picture you have is of a Superocean and the caseback is of a Steelfish. I have no idea what the warranty book references. There is no caliber "91" AFAIK. There's no serial number recorded in the warranty book either. The SO may or may not be real. I would defer that to other wiser eyes than myself but if someone is trying to sell you that I would run.

Edit: On second look at the SO I don't like the hour hand division and would lean towards fake.

Same dial, same ref, 2005?

What you need now is a pic of the caseback showing the serial number AND the serial # on the warrany book. They need to match the # you already have on the COSC certificate.

But there are still plenty available in ADs and on the onlibe gray market. You can pick one up new and perfect for about $2100 US. Just a thought.

It says A17360 on the case back, where would the serial on the case back be?

The warranty book has the serial number in the model number field, and it seems to match the COSC which is a good sign, but the huge (but blurry) photos combined with the tiny photos don't inspire confidence and the caseback photo carefully avoids making the model number clear. If it is A17360 then that's a good sign for a SuperOcean, not a Steelfish.

Thanks all for your swift replies.

I am new to Breitling (as you can tell).

I thought Steelfish was a SO variant?

Sorry, but I am learning every day about the models etc hence joining this forum today to find out a bit more before I part with my cash.

Thanks again. The seller is willing to go to the store of purchase to confirm authenticity so may do this. I believe AD's can do this over the phone with Breitling HQ with model and serial numbers?

Thanks again for all your help.

Godd luck. Yeah the Steelfish is the "Superocean Steelfish," but is a completely different watch. Same with the Superocean Heritage and Superocean Chrono.

Just to clear up any confusion here. A17360 is a good ref number for both SO from 2003 on and SO Steelfish from 2005. The concern here is that the seller evidently is saying it's a Steelfish when the dial picture is clearly a SO. I'm not sure what watch the caseback is from. The paperwork is a mess but as Roff says the COSC number matches the warranty book but mismarked and it may just be just an error on an AD's part in filling it out. I definitely would meet in person or get better pictures of the caseback and make certain everything is on the up and up.

In that first photo, the meaty part of the seconds hand is covering the bottom portion of the hour hand, and that is not the division of it, if that is what you were referring to. :?:
