Hello,

As I await the arrival of my Navi, I clued in that I will need a watch winder for my two Breitlings. Any worthy suggestions from you guys will be most welcome. I don't want to spend a lot of money on one though...can I get a decent one for under $100?

For under $100.... If you find a "decent" one let me know! I'll be needing one myself soon too. From what I hear, this is something that you should cost you a pretty penny! (unfortunately)

$100 will get you a mid range Chinese unit - not one of the super cheap eBay ones, but still a Chinese motor that may or may not last. If you accept that the winder will probably last no more than 2 years then you'll probably be OK.

what we need to know is, what is the cheapest one that is descent, can turn both ways, enough that we need. $200? $400? $600?

I am not much help when it comes to winders, but I have been following your posts the last couple weeks and thought I would chime in. Being that you are going to have a 2 watch rotation I dont think it is a given that a winder is nescesary.

I wear a Navi for work and a SOH at home, and I always just give each of my two a quick 20 or so turns while on my wrist. Although I wear both daily, my activity will not usually keep them wound constantly, so giving the movement a bit of help is just my way of chiping in.

One of the main reasons I have yet to get on the winder wagon is the price, and I just dont think keeping my wrist treasures in a poorly crafted winder is my optimal option, and with only two I dont see any reason not to store them in the bakelite box.

With a rotation of 4+ sporatic manual winding to maintain power reseve may get more difficult, but I think when it comes time to cross that bridge I will still prefer a non-winder box.

As for now, I get to spend a little extra time each day with my watches, and that is never a bad thing.

However, depending on size and material used, prices start at $850.

A few months ago I purchase 3 quad-winders from Brookstone. They are ultra quite and very good quality watch winders. You cannot find a quad watch winder of this quality in this price range...they just dont exist. They were $200 each, I may sell one if you are interested because I've reduced the number of my watches.

My mid to low range Garmin multi-watch winders work just fine. I assume I'll be buying new ones in about a year - they are simply consumables to me. But they in no way risk my wrist treasures. Keep the watches wound just fine. For what the good ones would cost me (I have spots for 20 watches), I'd rather buy a couple very nice watches.

I like the Wolf Designs winders. The 2.7 line can be adjusted as necessary and has breaks, which I think are necessary, and the cheaper ones do not have breaks.

Look through some different suggestions and I think you will come back to the Wolf Designs 2.7 line. I can refer you to someone at their head office that can put together a smokin' deal for you.

I agree with Sharkman. I rather spend my money on more watches

thomasenlow1 also has a valid point since I will only have two watches. However, I dont tend to wear a watch when I am home plus I am not home all that often. I am always at the office, then hit the gym and am home for probly 2 hours before I go to bed.

Thats why I thought I might need a winder. I want to get one that is affordable since I am interested only in its basic functionality to turn the watches so they dont stop.

I guess Garmin might be a good spot to start from...

$70.00 for a 4 watch winder on ebay. I bought mine 18 months ago and it's still going strong,it's quiet and has many breaks for the watch to rest. I couldn't justify $400 for one, maybe if this one breaks then I may buy a better one.

Is there a downside if the automatic watch is left in regular box and used only once or twice a week instead of leaving it on the winder.
In other words is it OK to leave it without power 70-80% of the time.

It's been discussed many times and the bottom line is that it's down to personal preference, the impact on the watch from either option is so slight as to be irrelevant.

I was concerned if the automatic Breitling (or any other brand) is left dead for most of the time.
Since it is irrelevant, now migh just stay with original Breitling storage box instead of spending extra in the winder.

But I hear many times some Breitling owners insisting on having a winder in order to preserve the watch in a long run.
