I currently have 2 Breitlings and 1 Omega with 1 Breitling and 1 Omega on order. Additionally there are 2 more Breitlings and 1 Rolex I want. So I'll probably be at 8 by the end of 2012. After that, we'll see what happens. I think my daughter starting college in 2013 will mean a few years without any additional acquisitions. But why set a number?

However I will admit I already have a problem deciding which watch to wear when I leave the house. They all just seem to want to jump on my wrist. It will only get harder but that is a difficulty I will just have to overcome......

:poke: Somehow I knew my buddy sequestered away in the brightly lighted room drooling over his shiny baubles muttering "Mine, Mine, Mine" would weigh in on the high side of this issue....hahahaha.....way to go Sharky!!!! I'll be joining you soon in that room buddy so save me and my shiny baubles some room. :woohoo: :nana: :brewing: :boingb:

I didn't say I had 22, I just answered the question, "What is the perfect number of watches." 22 sounds rational. :strummin:

Just sayin'.

:yeahthat

I think 4 is perfect, of course there are about 100 that I want, but 4 seems to be a good number, and you can have all your bases covered; dress watch, casual watch, sport watch, and lawn-mowing watch.

Ah, but don't you need at least 2 dress watch (let's say 1 for a wedding, another for a funeral), 3 divers/sporty (a 300m WR for actual diving, an Emergency for hiking up Kilimanjaro alone, and one for general-purpose-sports like bowling), 2 beaters (afore-mentioned mowing the lawn beater, and a REALLY-BEAT-em-up-beater like working on your greasy truck beater), and at least 5 misc (one inherited, one from your sig other, one birth year, one damn-i-got-carried-away-on-eBay, and of course, noone-really-gets-it-but-i-love-my-Xezo misc watch). So, 12 by my count

hahahahahaha. Love the justification.

If the question is how many whilst enjoying and spending a proper amount of time, then I would have to say 5-6.

4 seems like you would have all your regular bases covered, but I like the idea of having a utility player in the field. Something that might not come out but a dozen times a year, but has something extra special or different about it. I think a vintage watch fits the bill for me in this area. But this could apply to anything I guess.

Of course all this falls away if unless you presume that wearing 2-3 watches a day isn't essential.

I think 6 is the maximum good number for me with a total of four more preferable. A weekend watch (sporty, casual) one or two for the main part of each business day (more formal'ish) and then one or two others - sporty, casual, water, formal, exotic - it's nice to have a mix. There are so many watches I'd like to own but any more than 6 and I struggle with sharing wrist time. I end up wearing one or two predominantly and the others far less.

How about one for every day of the week? :D Seven sounds like a good number to me. (Although this may because I have three already, and another two in the "pipeline", so any less would mean the end of my watch acquisition phase would be in sight, and that would be very sad.) Four for daily rotation, and three "specials".

The Seven:

- Daily Workhorse (a much-loved, go-to, watch that you use with care but not extreme caution; for this I have my Starliner)
- Daily Fancy (for a tiny bit of occasional non-obnoxious flash; for me, I just picked up a TAG Aquaracer with some diamonds)
- Daily Special (because sometimes you just want something extra special on your wrist; for me, hopefully a Navi Montbrilliant Olympus)
- Daily Surprise (so the non-WIS folks don't think we wear the same one all the time; I am hoping for a JLC MC Diving GMT Lady Ceramique or a Chanel j12)
- Sport (a sport type is always necessary; I hope to have an Aerospace for this slot, since I personally don't need a diver)
- Dress (because there's no getting away from the necessity of one of these, no matter how much you may want to; for me this is my Chopard Men's Classique)

...And finally: One True Grail, because it's important to always have something to aspire to. For me, this is either a Ladies' Complicated Patek, or (right now) a Chopard LUC Lunar One, though I doubt I'll ever own either of these since they'll almost certainly be unavailable by the time I'm in a position to really consider one! (I know I said one grail, but let's face it, I'll only ever own one, so I'm entitled to keep my options open. :p)

Serge i understand what youre saying about enjoying the collection. hard to say though what the right number of watches is. maybe the question for me would be how much disposable income do I have? currently i only have 3 pieces in my collection. but i could see myself owning alot more even if i never really used them.

Nice Altair!!

Now the one person I would be very interested in hearing from is our fearless leader not to name names (Mr. Roff)...anyone noticed he's been conspicuously silent on this thread? :poke:

Anyone wanna bet he has a thermostatically/humidity controlled "Safe Room" buried under his house that is secured by 6" steel doors with electronic uncrackable locks guarded by a battery of hidden laser beams, motion sensors, pressure sensors, temperature sensors, 12 Doberman's, 2 armed guards, and poisonous gas jets just in case someone is able to infiltrate all of the above. :canada

I have said many times before that I choose not to share all of my collection - nothing has changed, and nothing will.
