You guys need to spend some time driving in the Middle East, Asia or Africa. Biggest car has right of way, first to hesitate loses right of way. It's GREAT. Never mind those pesky laws. Nothing $5 to the cop won't fix. Well there is maybe this you can't fix for $5....

We don't have to go that far, southern Europe will as much

The speed limit. A red light camera and they jacked the yellow light back from 4 seconds to 2 seconds! It's 72 degrees here - not a cloud in the sky and I'm stuck in this until 5PM. You have to pay a $260 fine AND do this crap. What a scam.

If you go through the intersections fast enough, the camera won't be able to photograph your license plate.

On a serious note...that totally sucks. I would dress comfortably for sure, and wear a piece you enjoy looking at often.

Best wishes-

~Brian

You're laughing Brian, but 3 or 4 years ago a guy with a tuned BMW M3 went through a radar at the Italian part of Switzerland. Nobody knows how fast he was going. Not himself because for obvious reasons he was watching the road and not his speedometer and not the radar either because it was regulated for speeds below 200 mph. Cops are so naive. So, no picture was taken. :nana: However, the guy being honest , denounced himself. And, of course, the cops could not give him a fine for over 200 mph since they could not, theoretically, prove that he was going faster. It's pointless to say that the guy became a hero. :cheer: He got away with a big fine and his license was revoked for 6 months.

I've seen stories on this clown. I think I'd just slow down.

Re some other posts - come on guys - reckless driving really isn't funny. That wasn't the point of my post. These cameras sometimes catch more than a violation - they catch the last instance of life, and the first moment of death. If you could see some of the scene pics that hit my desk weekly or look into the eyes of young parents who child was lost, as I do, you'd understand that the way I do.

Sorry to be a killjoy and all, but I needed to get that out.

Did I mention I live in Arizona????

Arizona Schmarizona. Muni judges are like that EVERYWHERE. They wouldn't know a compelling argument if it bit them on the ass.

Speaking of muni judges' asses, I believe the whole profession of cranial proctologist came about thanks to them.

Actually here you can walk on an ACTUAL ticket by showing up and making almost any argument. The marching order for the photo tickets is "no one walks." It is all about money after all - wouldn't want the civil justice system to mess up that.

Then what are you complaining about? Everyone loses in Oregon muni court.

When brushing up for my ticket trial, I was amused to see the only OR Supreme Court case regarding a traffic ticket is for photo radar. The rule is that it is a rebuttable presumption that the registered owner of the car is the driver; the prosecution does not have to prove who is driving. Rather, the owner has to prove he (or she) was not the driver, if that's their defense. Nice bit of burden shifting, that.

Why should we be concerned with pesky things like Amendments to a constitution, eh? Here they get the pic of your face too. But just the right blingy watch and just the right glare could work wonders. Where's that thread about the all diamond watch..............

RE short yellows - there was one by me, someone complained, and took video, wiith a timer in the photo - yep, they had reduced the yellow - to the point it was SHORTER than the US DOT legal minimum - don't know if he got it tossed or not

BTW - that was not USDOT for the marked speed - it was the USDOT for ANY speed - I think they had it down around 1.8 seconds, and if I remember right the minimum is 2 seconds, and with the posted speed, it should have been something like 2.5 (and NO, I've never had ANY traffic ticket, so it's not grumbling). I happen to know that light, and you can see it a LONG way away, and I know about how long the green is, so if it's coming close, I just get in the right lane, and slow WAY down, and look for things like the crosswalk lights etc. I've eaten in the pizza joint near there, and watched oh, 15-20 cars get tickets over the course of eating a slice

Look I'm not one to buy into conspiracy theories (I can tell you who really shot Kennedy though! Grassy knoll? Just another diversion. :) ). But the insurers have a hand it this also. Get trapped by an unavoidable red light set up and who gains? The gov't coffers for sure. But the major insurers effectively partner in this and agree to raise the crap out of rates for anyone getting one of these tickets regardless of driving history. Raising rates more than for the guy who gets pulled over 3 times a year. And don't give me the "free market, switch insurance companies" line - the free market doesn't apply where the product is mandatory and the ability of insurers to sell their wares is dependent on the good graces and approval of the local governing body.

At least in my State, a policy decison has been made to treat first time offenders the same as chronic reckless drivers - the notice of suspension, the cost of the ticket, the required Traffic Survival School (an entire cottage industry) (not defensive driving school), dramatically increased insurance rates.

Who benefits? Follow the money.

That's as much a truism as, "Nothing in life is certain but death and taxes." I don't agree with free market, either, when it comes to auto insurance. That's because all of them will raise your rates if you get speeding tickets. My rates went up when I got a ticket. I talked to my insurance agent about it, who assured me I was better off staying put. She said, "You're with a preferred-market company who only insures 'good' drivers. You're lucky they still want you. If you leave, you will likely have to go with a sub-preferred company, and you can be sure they will charge you more than even the raised rates you're currently paying." I suppose one could make the argument that the free market simply made my current insurance company a more appealing option than the competition, but I didn't feel very "free" with my decision.

[Edited for typos.]

I recently found out I wad operating under a misconception. Last time I had to concern myself with "points" it was 8 in 3 years before suspension was a possibility. Now, 17 points in a year! Sounds to me like they want to KEEP bad drivers on the road.

Ok, my last rant on this thread. After all this is a watch forum and timing has nothing to do with watches.
