Yes, lol

Even though I only have about 400+ posts I would definitely say I am an addict. For some strange reason I feel the need to click on the B-Source link at least once an hour at work to see WHATS NEW lol

So sad.....

Wow, didn't think this would be such a popular topic. I come into work and click on the link and....

I see a bunch great views here but it still has me thinking. I am sorry to say that I am one of those people who like "the best". Therefore, if I were to buy a new Navi World next month and then I here that they will be coming out with an in-house movement 6 months later; will I be upset....a little. Because I for one like that "new thing". Kinda like a buying a new car(Benz)... Say you buy a new S430 then a week later they came out with the S500. Knowing you could have afforded the S500 from the start....you would be kicking yourself. Not for the looks, but for what under the hood! :D Get my point....? (Now I know they all ready made the S500 to start but you get the point)

I guess your dammed you do or your dammed ya don't. Would it stop me from buying one though probably not. I hope they don't make it then at least for a few more years so I can enjoy it KNOWING there is no in-house movement yet.

There's an old adage that the best time to buy a computer is next week - always next week because there will be something newer / faster / better coming out. Same thing could be said for digital cameras today.

Watch evolution may be a little slower, but it amounts to the same thing - you can always wait for something better to come out, and sooner or later it will, but then there will be something better after that too and in the meantime you aren't enjoying the acquisition.

To me, if I like it and the price seems reasonable to me, then I buy it and don't worry too much about what might happen in the future. Certainly I may hold of buying in February knowing that Basel is just around the corner, but I don't worry too much about it otherwise.

To use your car analogy - as soon as you buy the S500 the next year's model is announced with more toys and a few more horsepower.

:yeahthat

Evolution (if not revolution, given the huge progress achieved between current and future models) is everywhere these days: planes, cars, computers, watches etc.

If everybody waited and postponed his future buy, then how is the economy suppose to work and produce the next evolution?

The funny thing is that when Rolex were manufacturing the Daytona with the Zenith movement the demand for the watches was HUGE. They changed over to an inhouse movement and the demand is nowhere near as high as it was.

Yeah, it may be the global economy that dictates demand but I remember in early 2001 when there was a waiting list of a few years for a Stainless Daytona and nowdays you can almost walk into a dealer and buy one on the spot.

I love my Blackbird and don't care if it becomes completely worthless in the future. I have promised to give it to my son on his 21st birthday in 10yrs and it will have serious sentimental value :lingsrock:

well, as an economics teacher, I'll say that the model's with the older movements will have the value that consumers(us) are willing to pay. If consumers subjectively decide they older models aren't as valuable and don't want to spend much money on them, they will drop in value. If consumers are still willing to spend money on them, for reasons of scarcity etc. they will hold their value.

Thanks Boogiebot, my son is so excited even though it's in a decade. It also excites me as I am going to have to replace it right :lingsrock:

That's pretty funny. My wife showed my 6 year old my Blackbird and told him that one day it'll be his, he got pretty excited. I wonder how excited she'll be when I replace it with a JLC MCC 2.

It depends on the gold market and what kind of resale I could get for her.

You may end up losing money after they deduct the waste disposal fees.
