Not sure if anyone here can help, but we seem to have a few IT gurus here so I thought I'd ask anyway.

I just transferred my iTunes account over onto a new PC as I've done in the past, and everything worked fine as far as my account and the music side of things goes. The problem is with the iPhone Apps. I transferred my App purchases to my PC with no problem and backed them all up which was also fine. However the screen under the "App" tab in iTunes which shows your iPhone app screens (and allows you to move apps, deselect then, etc) when your phone is connected, is completely greyed out. Consequentally I can't synch any apps from my PC to my phone, which means if I buy or download updates to apps on the PC I can't get them onto my phone.

As I say I've tried backing up my iPhone to the PC, and that works fine..... but it still makes no difference to Apps tab being greyed out. Both my iTunes and iPhone are up to date on the latest versions of the software, and I've also checked every setting I can think of both on the phone and in iTunes, but nothing fixes it. I've read a few posts on Apple forums with people with the same issue, but they've all been less than hopeless in terms of fixing it. Some reports of this problem seem to go back a year or more, and so far Apple appear to have done precisely nothing in terms of addressing it.

Anyone else on here have a similar problem? And if so, have you fixed it?

 I'm really not remotely surprised no one could help on this topic. There's been reports of this problem for over a year now on Apple forums and no one has found a solution that works for everyone. None of the recommended things to try worked for me. However I've managed to fix the issue myself. :D I copied all my music and apps to another location and then uninstalled before reinstalling iTunes. I copied my music and apps folder back and lo and behold it worked!

If anyone else comes across this problem it might be worth a try.

Have you transferred purchases from your phone to your iTunes account AFTER reinstalling iTunes on the new PC?

When I upgraded my wife's phone to the 4G I had to repurchase several apps so they would appear in iTunes.

It was a pain but it fixed my issue.

We have an app called "Knocking Vid" where you can "knock" on another iPhone user's phone and live stream video via wifi connection. We used it quite a bit on our last vacation and send real time video to our friends back home. It's pretty cool.

I know a lot of people are Blackberry loyal, but after owning an iPhone I wouldn't own any other phone. It's too easy to use.

1) the keypad is easier to type for me

2) the use of pin

I had a Sony Experia for about two years and just changed to the iPhone 4 last week. I had hardware QWERTY layouts for the last four or five years (had Nokias before the Sony) and wouldn't consider an on-screen only keyboard until I got an iPad over the summer and found it dead handy.

I absolutely love it, although the singularly most irritating feature is that you can't have spell-check operational without the irritating predictive text feature enabled. I'm a bit of a grammar/spelling Nazi, so going without spell-check is unacceptable to me, but I find now I've sent emails and texts without noticing that the word I was trying to use has been changed to something else because I was distracted while typing and didn't realise it had substituted until after I sent.

Notable examples of this: "tweed" for "tweet", "Valhalla" for "blah" (?!?), "contests" for "congrats", "sandy" for "samey", etc... Nothing too embarrassing, but annoying all the same. This will eventually be fixed once the auto-correct dictionary stores all my frequently used less common/non-OED words, but I find it annoying that you can't edit that dictionary and that the user dictionary can only be accessed by installing a Japanese or Chinese keyboard first...

That one little niggle aside, though, I really do love the iPhone. The selection of apps is great, the on-screen keyboard itself is pretty great, call quality is excellent and I haven't had any problem with signal drops (as yet), and the camera is absolutely super. Haven't used it for video/music yet, but given everything else I'm sure it's pretty great. Would definitely recommend it to others, even if have preferred a hardware keyboard in the past.

The iPhone's grammar Nazi is alive and works well.

It comes in handy!

We dont have i-phone available to us here in usa on a cdma network At least till january , but i love my droid and everything you guys complain about the i-phone really is not that big of a deal except for i-tunes thats the worst thing apple has come out yet. O and sorry driver i haven't been on this forum in a while but i would of told you to re-install i tunes then load the apps again. Im still going to get the i-phone when it comes out for verizon but i dont know how i'm going to deal with all these little flaws, there are a few more that are not mentioned but i don't wanna get in to that, so far i think the moto. droid is a awesome phone i have it for a little over a year it does have some software isues sometimes but they fixed it now that the came out with droid 2 but as far as overall quality hands down i phone wins

I think you can get around most of the software niggles on the iPhone if you're prepared to jailbreak? (I'm not, personally, but I know a lot of people aren't worried about it, so there's always that option if anything is bothering you terribly.)

This little irritation (plus Apple's frankly pathetic refusal to allow Flash) is the only thing that's every irritated me with the iPhone. I used a Blackberry for work for a while, but the iPhone beats it hands down in every way...., certainly in every way that I personally use it. Obviously I know there are BB devotees out there as well, but for me the iPhone is the best mobile around bar none.

D8 surely you have this problem with your phone solved by now but I had a storm in the brain today and finally was able to get this problem fixed on my phone and wanted to share for anyone who might be having the same difficulty.

I've had this pesky problem for over a year now ever since I moved my itunes library to a different hard drive on the same computer. I could see my apps on itunes in br549's iphone under apps but couldn't do anything with it. So after a year of frustration here's what I did, which after I did it, I thought, 'why didn't I think of that before'? :huh

Under file select transfer purchases from br549's iphone. After the transfer the app menu will still be grayed out but select the Sync Apps button. (If you select this button before you transfer your purchases it will give you a warning that your apps will be deleted or overwritten or the world will come to an end or some scary line which dissuades you from doing it). Now, after you transfer your purchases, the scary sentence is still there but have no fear because everything that's on your phone is (if you have transferred) in itunes and vice versa, so go ahead and hit the button. Voila! you should be back in business.

Evidently if you move your library files around as D8 and I did, itunes freaks out and pouts and runs home to momma. Even though the apps on the phone and in itunes (that you can't get to) are there and are the same, it wants to be reassured.

Hope this helps someone.
