Just heard from my AD that the SuperOcean Steelfish has been discontinued b/c they are making one with an in-house movement? Is this true?? I knew Breitling was going to be moving to in-house movements in other lines (not just the Chronomat 01) but I didn't know the Steelfish was up next. With that said, would you pick up the current version or wait until the in-house was released (who knowshow long) I am also eyeing the colt chrono blue subs. I went in to buy the Steelfish but then hesitated when I heard it has been discontinued. I realize sometimes discontinued can be good but the difference here is they are moving to in-house movements not just a newer model with the same movement. I am kinda thinking now that I should pick up the Colt and wait on the automatic until the new movement arrives (realizing it will be more $$ haha) Any thoughts??? Thanks

Colt Chrono should keep you occupied untill you see what else they release. Why not!

I've not heard anything, and while I wouldn't be overly surprised to see more in house announcements, it's unusual for Breitling to discontinue watches away from the Basel cycle.

I have not heard of an in-house version of the SOSF, but if it is true then it is a must have piece IMO. If you can verify that this is accurate, then it is worth the wait and the extra $$ to get it.

My AD never mentioned a thing about it the other day, and we were talking about the Steelfish. Still, that does not mean that it won't happen. I wonder if it will be getting the Superocean II look as well, it would be interesting to see. However, it would now probably be priced over $4000., right up there with the SA. I think it is now $2945 on PRO II.
Like Roff says, maybe at Basel 2011?
Lots of exciting changes may be on the way. I am waiting this one out, till I get my next watch. A new Blackbird and a new Steelfish are exciting prospects, as they are my two favourite Breitlings, after the Seawolf!
Cheers,
Carl

The Steelfish design is getting a bit dated so perhaps there's a new design coming also? Could be interesting but kinda hope it's not borrowed from the SOII...

I agree! I wasn't suprised either in the sence I knew Breitling was transitioning over to in-house. I just was caught off guard that the AD said the Steelfish. I even questioned, making sure he wasn't thinking about the basic SuperOcean that was discontinued. Some AD's know a ton about the watches...others I find have no clue. That's why I am curious about the Steelfish claim.

My AD also was talking about "more in-house movements" last week. I was in a hurry and so didn't dig for details, but it certainly seems there are some changes coming.

While I have no doubt Breitling will be expanding their in-house movements, and of course I anxiously await any development regarding such, I am very interested to see how they integrate them into their 'Value" models and maintain their price point.

Yeah, I don't know why they would put the 01 in the Steelfish, SO, and Colts at this time. This would drive up the price too much (?), and take away those 'good value' pieces from the line-up. After the Windriders and Navitimers they could look at the 01 in the SOH , SOHC and possible one of the Avengers IMO. But, time will tell I guess!

I don't think they woud want the same movement in everything, nor would it be suitable I would think. Maybe they are already hard at work on the 02, 03 etc...

They've already stated that they working on a non chrono version, and I am sure that there will be a couple more base movements with modular complications.

It's also possible that they plan to go 100% in house and move away from the value end of the market.

I did see that non chrono version being considered a while back and yes it wouldn't make sense to use the '01' movement as is, but some other in-house variation as Justin inferred.

As to moving away from value market, how far away??? :| will be the question I guess.
