I was interviewing some candidates today for a job opening and one guy walks in looking very smart, sits down, shoots his cuffs and I get to see a speed bracelet. I'm thinking that I like this guy already, then he moves his arm and....

It's a fake!

He can't possibly have known why that wasn't appropriate with me in particular, and I didn't say anything to him, but if I end up hiring him he's obviously going to figure it out - wonder how he's going to feel then.

You should hire him, then hold out his first paycheck and buy him a real one

If he doesn't quit, then.....

I HAVE A CUSTOMER, MILLIONARE MANY MANY TIMES OVER, HAS A DOZEN CARS THAT COST 100K PLUS AND WEARS A FAKE BELL AND ROSS AND FAKE PANERAI. BRAGS TO BE HOW CLOSE THEY ARE AND SHOWSME THE SITE HE BUYS THEM FROM.

AND THEN JUST THE OTHER DAY, I AM WALKING BY THE SALES COUNTER AT WORK AND I SEE A CUSTOMER TALKING TO ONE OF MY COUNTER MAN. I NOTICE THE UNMISTAKABLY OBVIOUS TELL TALE BREITLING LEATHER STRP. SO I SAID TO THE GUY, OH I NOTICED YOUR BREITLING, SHOWED HIM MY WRIST, AND HE WENT TO SHOW ME HIS.

GOLD TOURB, WITH DIAMOND BEZEL, BOTH FAKE, OBVIOUSLY. HE SAW MY FACE AND KNEW I KNEW IT WAS A FAKE, SO I ASKED HIM. DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT WATCH COSTS IF IT WAS REAL, HE SAID I DONT KNOW, MAYBE 5 K" I TOLD HIM HE WAS 150K LIGHT, AND HE LAUGHED.

I WONDERED HOW YOU KNEW IT WAS FAKE SO FAST, I TOLD HIM THE BAD FAKE DIAMOND BEZEL WAS THE FIRST CLUE, BUT I HAD HIM TAKE IT OFF AND IT DIDNT HAVE A DISPLAY BACK, IT HAD A GACK OFF OF A GMT ON IT!

I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he has never handled a real ling before and doesn't have an appreciation for the real deal, yet. Maybe it was a gift from his significant other so he would 'look the part' in the interview. Who knows?

LoL

What gave it away?

In my experience I find it very hard to determine authenticity of someone's watch whilst it's on their wrist.
I was in the barber's last week and noticed a chap wearing a Hublot King Power Gold watch, it looked very much like the real deal. Doubt it was though, as the guy pulled up in a 10 year old Ford Fiesta, but who knows.

At least it didn't hamper his hiring prospects?

Some people really have no shame about fakes-- it's really just a matter of perspective. The faker-wearers think we're crazy to pay for the real thing, and we think they're crazy to pay for a knock-off.

Look at a fake (except the 'high end' ones) across the crystal - i.e. side on, but slightly above the watch and it's very obvious - the crystal makes the watch look distorted and almost magnified - and it really stands out.

Of course it won't affect his chances of being hired, I just wonder how he's going to feel if I hire him and he finds out that I am a member here.

Something tells me that watches are not this guy's hobby, so his response would probably be "Breitling Source what?" :)

He might feel a little 'uncomfortable' at first, depending how you react to his reaction (?), but hey, what a great opportunity to introduce the guy to the 'real' Breitling/watch world. :)
