The recent "Pilot Bias" post here got me moving on a issue I noticed on the Pilots I have owned. That post was asking about the watch head moving down the wrist and also about equal/different amounts of links either side of the clasp.

I wore three different Pilots bracelets, dated 2000 and 2001 from Chronomats and a 2008 from a Cockpit, over the last few years and I noticed that on the 2008 the clasp hinge/knuckle, around the pin, had very sharp corners on them IMO. I found that after wearing that I had a quite bad mark on my wrist. This was happenind even over short periods of ware.

On the 2000 and 2001 the hinge/knuckle around the pin was round and was very comfortable to ware no matter where it was placed and never marked or was a irritant in anyway on matter how long they were on the wrist.

This was a irritant to me and I decided to take a closer look. I then noticed the sharp corners.
My solution was to remove one link from the 12 o'clock side and fit it to the 6 o;clock side of the bracelet.

This had the effect of moving the clasp and in turn the sharp corner around and up the side of the wrist towards the 12 o'clock thus reducing the problem nearly totally.

Did any one ever notice this or have a issue like it on the Pilots before.
I done a search here on Pilot comfort and found no one seems to have any issues with it before or at least I can not find any.

Hopefully this post might help some pilot owners if its ever a issue for the them.

A picture paints a thousand words and here they are.....

Here is the 2008 and you can clearly see the 90 degree corners on the clasp knuckle

Here is the 2000 and the hinge/knuckle is clearly more rounded.

Very interesting. I noted the 2 marks in the underside of my wrist left by those corners, but I never felt any pain from it. On the other hand, I usually have it on loose enough that it moves around a bit, likely preventing the bracelet from putting pressure on the same spot for excessive amounts of time.

My Pilot bracelet is also from 2008 but it does need feel sharp. Even though its fairly tight on my wrist it does not bother the skin at all.
