I haven't been able to find an answer to this question - what material or materials are most Breitling dials made of??

There's a whole section in 'The Book' about it - from memory, brass.

Oh you mean that big black book sitting on my coffee table? Sign of the times - I searched and searched the internet and never once considered picking up a book. I really must go back to being a Luddite.

Never said that there was a chapter - I said "section". From memory there is a double page spread that shows the process from blank to completed dial.

Yeah there is a 2 page spread showing how the dial is formed into it's final shape.

I never meant to misquote you, simply used the wrong word. I beg your pardon Roff.

Is the apparent color of the dial an enamel material? Would it be baked separately and affixed to the brass portion or directly baked onto the brass?

By the look of it, I would say it's bonded directly to the brass. The pictures show a blank then another shot of it after each time it's stamped getting progressively closer to the final thing.

FYI there is a copy of "The book" on Ebay right now for around $100 starting I believe.

Yeah I think enamelling is pretty much gone now for mass produced dials, just a few handmade pieces from some of the ultra high end makers. Not sure what the bonding process is these days.
