thanks guys so much for the responses and the genuine caring it says something about this board and the people and it means alot to me.

if the money is not an issue when you guys purchase a watch do you guys have a mental limit that you dont cross? and i know that finance is all subjective the person who is purchasing. like Roff said some people save to spend 1000 and others can just splurge 100k. but do you guys have a certain dollar amount in your head that you just dont cross even if you can afford to do it??

How much is too much for a watch? That's a question I'm sure everyone here has debated at one time or another.

For me it boils down to do I want to spend $15,000 (or some comfortable limit) on one really nice watch or get five $3,000 watches? Since there are so many good quality pieces to choose from in the lower price range I personally like the idea of having a few different designs to wear. Different looks and qualities/assets for different uses, etc. I can't handle the idea of having one expensive watch for all occasions that I am afraid to wear due to losing or damaging it. But that's just me. I'm sure there are others who think the opposite.

Now the question still is, how much should that total expenditure be? Everyone is going to have their own number depending on individual circumstances. But for me, since the watch experience is not my primary hobby I tend to limit spending at a few thousand dollars per piece and own 3-5 pieces. If I find something I like better than I have I will sell one first. I probably will never (I know, don't say never) spend more than 6-7 thousand on one watch, so I guess that is my limit.

Sounds like in your situation you have other watches in your collection so an additional more expensive piece is giving you 'fits'. That means your at least aware of the dangerous spiral you are about to enter

Good luck with your decision!

all down to personal circs, for me i got a steelfish and it was a decent amount of money for me but i plan and do wear it every day. I cant personally justify spending alot of money on a watch and just leaving it in a safe, I will get more expensive watches and i have my eye on a zenith el primero t open, but again i would wear it daily and prob end up selling the steelfish - this wont happen for a long while but it still a plan

i guess that the question im struggling with in my own head. i love the watch believe it when i say it i cant stop looking at this thing it occupies 90% of my searches on Google...lol. my comfort level metally is the same as yours 6-7k. And if i were to buy a 312 (which is an amazing watch) i would save a ton of money. so these thoughts always bounce around in my head. plus add in the fact that i am indecisive (prob spelled that wrong) and it makes the choice that much harder.

Actually, with internet and ebay, the way we now think of most luxury items has changed tremendously. It's no longer just about how much the watch cost, but also how much I can get if I want to sell it when I'm done with it. The permanent cost of ownership for the watch is then just the difference of the two.
100% in agreement with you H2F. I bought my B-1 for less than I sold it for so I had a B-1 on my wrist for 3 years for free!

Get it. Maybe LNIB in TZ Showcase. Don't settle for the 312 -- you'll end up flipping it.
