You can get the 1.6mm Bergeon here for $8.95: http://www.esslinger.com/bergeonscrewdr ... 300mm.aspx

And a replacement 1.8mm blade here for $2.95: http://www.esslinger.com/bergeonreplace ... ngles.aspx

I assume that the handles are all generic. Anyone know if this is true?

Ok many thanks Shark & Roff,

Will get the 6767F for sure, trying to decide on which screwdriver sets to get, the Bergeon Ergonomic or the Bergeon Stainless Steel one.... tough call!

By all means the ergonomic! You don't want to develop carpal tunnel syndrome. :poke:

Not true. The handles are different sizes.

Thanks. It's funny they sell the 1.8mm blade but not the handle.

I assume they sell the blades for those people who bought the 1.8mm when they were still for sale.

As the 1.8mm has become harder to find there are a lot more people using the 1.6mm than the 1.8mm - it works fine.

You can get a set of A-F screwdrivers for less. I have been using them on the bench for years with no problems. If you plan to use screwdrivers for any but the most trivial task, you need to learn how to sharpen them and set the blade thickness to match the screw slots you are working with. Also, to avoid tool marks I omly use the screwdriver to break the bond of the screw threads. Once the screw is loose, I use pegwood with Rodico on the end to capture the screw and remove it.

Wow onewatchnut, that is awesome. I'm wondering if it's worth the money buying all these tools ensure I have no tool marks when I can probably find an AD who can do it for a tiny fraction of the cost.

your method sounds like it would produce excellent results, which is exactly what I want.

More info on your width comment please!

This is probably more information than most people want to know, but here it is.

There are two dimensions on the screwdriver blade that are critical to removing and installing screws. The width of the blade should closely match the diameter of the screw head. If there is not a direct fit, it should be slightly smaller. The blade thickness at the tip should allow the blade to enter the slot and not quite touch the bottom. Most tool marks on watches come from the blade being too narrow and bottoming out before being tight against the walls of the slot. It's a roadmap for disaster. The blade will almost always slip and leave a gouge on the plate.

Most screwdriver sets come with spare blades. That provides the opportunity to adjust the same width blade to different thicknesses. You can then use the correct blade for the screw without continually sharpening the same blade.

The blade should be sharpened on an oilstone so that the tip is on the centerline of the blade stock and the two sides are parallel. Then the tip can be run on the oilstone at a right angle to remove material from the tip until it is at the desired thickness.

The use of Rodico on pegwood is a trick I learned many years ago. It's not an original idea. I'm sure I read it somewhere or saw someone else do it. I use it to remove and install screws whenever possible. I only use the screwdriver when there is side pressure on the screw that requires more torque than the Rodico can provide. Then you must be very careful.
