Been searching for a birth year Breitling for a while and managed to pick this one up on Ebay at what I think was a very good price.

Needs a replacement crystal but apart from that it's apparently in good working order. Can't wait to get it!!

Congratulations Stef.

It was a good year for a WIS to be born.

Mine was apparently bought new and only ever owned by a pilot in the French Air Force.

My 41 year old friend arrived today and I'm over the moon with it, equally excited with this old boy as I have been with all the other Breitlings I've ever bought!

Apart from the 'crystal' needing replacing and a couple of little marks in the silver of the inner bezel, for its age it's in very good shape! No major dents or dings and although initially the chrono second hand stuck a little around the 12 area it's now been running for 51 minutes solid, all hands return dead to 12, fantastic!

The case back still has everything legible and check out the condition of that bezel, the black paint is unmarked!

It will be going off to Breitling UK next week for a quote on an overhaul and new 'crystal' so I need to find some time to take lots of before photos before it goes!

The bracelet just fits me, ideally could do with tracking down a link and popping it back in, so if anyone knows of anywhere I could get one....................................

You might be able to have the crystal polished up a bit. Good luck trying to find another. Last I heard they are NLA. I sold my nos spare to someone in the UK last year for $350 so I know they're really tough to find.

Well, after a tip from someone on another forum I use, I gently used a bit of Autosol on the acrylic and this was the result...............................

That's pretty impressive.

BUK may need to take a look at the date change - doesn't look centred to me.

Nice to see some bigger pictures of that bad boy Stef! Looks damn good for it's age too...... a bit like me!  Kidding!

BTW, there was a guy on here a while ago who was selling NOS 1806 cases with the crystal. I think the guy in question has been back here recently and if you PM him he'll get an auto email, so maybe he has some left. I don't recall him selling any here, but that's obviously not to say he didn't shift them elsewhere. Might be worth a look? Here's the link -

Thanks Driver8, I'll follow that up.

Here's a few more shots post Autosol'ing the plexiglass, I'm almost happy with it as it is now and thinking I may not need to have it replaced!

Had an email from BUK yesterday to advise my Chrono-Matic is out of overhaul and in to quality control so I'm expecting a call/letter next week to say it's ready to be returned! I'll post up the pics when I get it back.

Spoke to Breitling UK on Friday, it failed its timekeeping in quality control so has gone back for further adjustments!
