Not uncommon if the watch isn't a huge seller. I've seen many that are much older.

Ok sounds logik, this watch is the Avenger with vulcano black dial, not the arbic numbers but the "index". Shouldnt be so hard to sell? But if u order from th jewler what date should u expect on the watch.

Depends, if the watch comes from the distributor it may still be several months old, if the order comes from Switzerland then it will be newer, but will have a 3 month or so wait for it.

The warranty runs from purchase date so not really an issue in that regard.

Just out of interest, how can you tell how old a watch is?

On Breitlings produced in the last 8 years or so there is a date code between the 6 o'clock lugs - http://www.breitlingsource.com/articles_dating.shtml

Warrenty starts when watch is sold. If it's a year or two old and there is a newer design in the same model you might get a great discount to take the older watch with a warrenty for just as long!

Thanks for the info. I just took off the strap and checked the date on my watch which says 4809 so I guess it was manufactured in late November of 2009.

That makes the watch just under a year, I bought it the other day so it's been sitting in the jewellers for just under a year! Is that a bad thing?
I mean, will it affect the long term life of the watch not having been wound?
There were no scrathches or marks so I assume the jewellers were careful handling it, so that was not an issue.
Its just kinda bugging me now that I've bought a new watch which is in fact a year old.

Had I known this when buying it, I would have asked the jeweller to remove the strap and then ask for an even bigger discount seeing as it was almost a year old.

My watch is an Avenger btw.

I think you are getting a little to caught up in when the watch was actually manufactured. The watch still is brand new, and carries with it a full 2 year warranty. I think it is a little unreasonable to expect that every watch you purchase from an AD is "hot off the line". Dealers must purchase stock in order to show it to potential customers, and keep in mind that the local distributor (BUSA for example) has to maintain stock as well.

It would be a different story if you purchased a brand new watch and it was manufactured a long time ago...say 3 years. In that case then I think it would be fine to request additional discounting. Just my $.02.

You wouldn't get a bigger discount on a 10 month old watch, and there really isn't a problem. Sure the oil is 10 months old and has been breaking down somewhat, but the counterpoint to that is there has been no mechanical wear. Also, service intervals aren't precise - we generally say 5 - 7 years on here so you can't claim that you will have to pay for an earlier service - it's just the way that retail works the world over - it's just more obvious when the item is date stamped.

Hi guys,

Would like to ask along the same lines as this topic on a bracelet.

Bought a brand new pilot bracelet for my blackbird in july this year.

When i was showing my watch this week which was bought new in 2010.

The watch was from 48 week 08 which does not bother me.

However the bracelet was from middle of 2007 is this normal.

I mmust add the bracelet was immaculate.

Bracelets are slower turnover - most people only buy them with a watch, so not unusual at all that the one was older. Many ADs won't even stock much in the way of bracelets / straps because they end up holding inventory for extended periods.
