So i have been doing some thinking about what direction I want to go for my next purchase, and although I hate getting too far ahead of myself I have even been looking 2-3 additions down the road.

Basically in the last few months I have been exposed to more watch porn than I ever knew was out there, and while I know some variety is nice I am coming to the conclusion that Breitling may offer everything I am looking for in their diverse lineup.

What can I say...I am brand loyal. I guess there is something to be said about having a great collection of B's as opposed to an average grouping of a mixed bag. There is always going to be more timepeices I want, but you cant chase them all down. At least by sticking with Breitling there is a focused method to this madness.

Beyond that...I dont have to explain that the Breitling, with its history, stylings, and function, is an easy brand to support.

Thoughts on variety vs. brand loyalty? Pros and Cons?

I can understand where you are coming from, and think that a fair amount of people on this forum probably started out with a similar mindset. I think you will find that your tastes will change the more exposure you have to other brands. For me...a lot of my desire to collect watches from brands outside of Breitling has been fueled by repeated trips to my local AD. The more I try them on in person (as opposed to seeing images online) the more I come to appreciate the differences between brands.

I originally thought that I would exclusively buy Breitling watches, but now my plan has shifted. My future plans for my next 4 watches are all from different manufacturers. I am excited at the thought of having timepieces that are all very different from each other.

I was Breitling only for a very long time, at least in wristwatches - vintage and modern. I don't sell watches so I still have a very heavy Breitling element to the collection. However, as my tastes evolve and as Breitling takes the brand away from my personal preferences I found that I could find more of what I wanted elsewhere. At the end of the day I want to be able to buy more Breitlings, and still look at vintage pieces quite heavily, and I'm looking forward to an in house, DB Navi, but there is only so much money in the 'lifetime watch budget' and whether that's $10,000 or $10,000,000 I don't intend to 'waste' it on a watch just because of the manufacturer if another manufacturer offers me a watch that I prefer.

If the watches that you want are Breitling then great, but I would never buy one over a preferred watch from a competitor. They aren't loyal to us, so we shouldn't be blindly loyal to them.

I had a similar midset, I wanted a BREITLING ONLY COLLECTION. At one point this year I had 10 Breitlings sitting here and said to myself "what the hell am I doing??" There are far too many watches out there that appeal to me to just own Breitlings; so I sold half of my Breitlings and branched out to other brands....and I'm very glad I did.

Breitling makes some great watches; they're still my favorite brand, but I can't allow one brand to completely dominate my interests.

Variety vs Brand Loyalty? Great question.. I think you will find that other brands can offer you things that Breitling cannot, such as.. Quick Strap Change Systems, Sandwhich Dials, Ceramic Bezels, and many many other things which would take forever to list. I can't think of any cons to variety. I'm loyal to Breitling but I'm on the variety bandwagon right now.

Good points on both parts. I also dont really plan to sell many of my pieces. So I do sort of want to have some idea of my next couple purchases, although I envy you non-OCD people who buy based one "calling to you". I have to stress over these things for some time before pulling the trigger

That being said...I should clarify and say that I am really just thinking in the short run (1-2 years) and regarding the current line-up. For my, shall we say beginner tastes, I think there is something in every Breitling line-up to suit my needs. (Hell, maybe Breitling markets themselves that way)

The Breitling Swag and Goodies that are for sale on the bay and other places seem are a big part of the appeal to me. It makes being a Breitling owner seem like more of a hobby. (Which is maybe just a justification for spending chunks of my disposable income on it)

If, nay...when the aforementioned disposable income takes a turn north...Then it is on!!!

For now, I got almost everything I want with Breitling.
Tool watches: Superavenger, skyland, seawolf.
Classic-sporty: Superocean II, Superocean 125th
Dress: Navitimer 125th, Montbrillant olympus
The only complication I want is Breitling perpetual calendar, but it's too expensive.

As mr Roff, I want a DB breitling with in house movt but without chrono.
That's the only one I'm waiting.
I don't want grande complications, or power reserve comp.
So Breitling has a great variety for me and I'm not looking in other brands.

I started out just in pure love/lust with Breitlings, when I got my first Breitling I could of afforded a Rolex any of then with the exception of the Daytona. However, I bought a Navitimer and as a dress watch I bought a Jaeger Le Coultre Master Date. However, I rarely ever wore the Master Date on a regular basis and finally over a decade later lol got rid of it & naturally I traded for a Breitling Navitimer.

Over the years & not all of them have been "watch years" I learned to appreciate less is more in most instances and while I am still waiting for a Scott Carpenter Cosmonaute & I can kick myself I could of bought one cheap when they first came out but I decided not to just because it had no date function - stupid me! - See that's a case where less is more lmao!

I have learned to appreciate other brands even Rolex with some models lol - yet I think that a perfect evolutionary step forward from the Breitlings are the IWC's. And whle I very much like the motto "Instruments For Professionals" in the age of political correctness bull - I love IWC's moniker "Engineered For Men".

However, without Breitling I would of never truly evolved as a WIS and I am the first to recognize that Breitling offers a great bang for your buck, pound whatever is your currency of exchange. And just in case I ever forget - I am quickly reminded every time I wear my 1461/52 had this timepiece have any other brand name like IWC, Rolex, Jaeger Le Coultre and others I would not be able to even touch it let alone have it on my wrist whenever I want to wear it.

However, I am currently heading in the IWC way have a Mark XVI comming as soon as I can pay it off lol and there are two or three more IWC's that I simply love! Nonetheless I am still waiting for the right Cosmonaute! lol

I like Breitling as much as everyone else on here, but variety is the spice of life. I wouldn't rule out any other brands.

Breitlings hold probably the most appeal to me as well, but I do like and own several other brands. There are not many Rollies that I care for although I do own 1 and would also like to add a DSSD, but it's out of my price range at the moment. I own a couple of Movado's which are very nice and a TAG that is also very nice. I would like to expand the depth of my "Lings" by 2-3 more varieties as they are my preferred High end brand. I also own quite a few Tonino Lamborghini watches which I also admire due to the many colors, styles, comps, and so forth they have to offer. Below are just a few of my "Lambos", unfortunately I'm over here working in Iraq and don't have access to my entire collection, but then again customs would have a field day with me if I brought them all with me Next time I'm home I need to get some more pics of the other ones in my collection.

I agree that Breitling does offer something for every occasion, and when I fisrt started looking into getting a "nice" watch they were the ones that I elevated towards. I could easily see myself owning 4 Breitlings and nothing else, but through this and other websites I've learned about many other brands of watches. While I do love Breitlings, except some of the new LE's coming out, there are too many fine watchmakers out there to completely count them out just because they aren't Breitlings.

My next couple of purchases are an Omega a Rolex and a Panerai with maybe an IWC to follow. While I could find different Breitlings to fill the roles of all of these watches I like the idea of having a but of variety also. But then again who knows, I may wind up with 10 Breitlings

great point here. One aspect of breitling that I really like is that with the price points. To have 4-5 Rolexes or IWC or Panerais would require a pretty big investment. I think Breitling has found a nice spot in the marketplace and although it does affect resale value, and leads to deep discounting by dealers, it still seems that Breitling is more accesible to Joe Everyman.

With a focused effort and some hard work a great collection of B's can be had for the same investment as an extra vehicle or a pleasure boat. I dont think the same can be said of some of the more exclusive brands.

I completely agree with that. If you're patient and don't mind a pre-owned one you could have 2 for the price of a Rolex, but I'm not saying I want a bunch of Rolexes either. I'll tell you what though, now that I've actually seen a pic of the B01 Navi I may wind up with more than one Breitling.
