Is it cheaper to send a watch directly to Breitling than going through an AD for servicing?

It isn't a cheap process either way! However, I send mine directly to them for servicing! They are quite helpful and will take good care of it. I have done it both ways for myself and friends.
Good luck!

I always send mine in direct. Postal insurance is the biggest issue, but once you have that sorted it's better (IMO) to send them in direct. That way you don't have some Saturday work experience kid at an AD messing about with your watch.

As said, directly is generally better, but price is the same. The ADs get a 'referral fee' if sent through them, but the price for the consumer is unchanged.

I spoke to Breitling Canada(toronto) and he said to send it in via AD is better due to insurance in case it gets lost.
550$ for overhaul + 375$ for crystal!!! Ouch!

There is an issue with postal insurance.

Someone I bought some Breitling kit off gave his watch to an AD to send off fro service. On the postal route back from Breitling to the AD, the watch vanished, never to be seen again. As it was the responsibility of Breitling at the time (it was travelling between the service centre and the AD) Breitling replaced the watch without question. You may not get that type of service if you send it direct for service yourself.

Just a thought worth considering.

Send overnight UPS red label. Make sure you insure it, do delivery confirmation, adult signature required and track it all the way! Also, never send on a Friday for Monday delivery as you don't want it sitting in a warehouse somewhere over the w/end. Always send during the week! If you put enough insurance on it...UPS has a different system and the package must be signed for at every destination and the person signing is responsible. I have a great friend that works at UPS!
Good Luck

How often should a watch for servicing? Mine is 2 years old, but its coming back from BUSA for repairing which I'd assume that it was taken apart completely and such. Would that consider being a servicing?

OP,
I sent mine directly with UPS w/ insurance and safely packed. It was helpful from them. I've noticed that different people handle different regionals in the US (depending where you live). This is all I've learned from my recent with BUSA helping my repair.

When it can no longer keep time within COSC specs or hold a power reserve, generally 5 - 7 years. Your watch was likely re oiled which is the main issue, but without knowing what they did no one can guess whether it was equivalent to a service.

By the way, your new signature is really annoying (to me at least).

Thanks for the info.

As I said by PM it was just refreshing way too fast - it's just a constant flashing annoyance - just slow down the refresh rate.
