Is my Chrono Colt II unusual?

I just bought my BREITLING Chrono Colt II from authorized dealer and notice that my both second hand are not completely overlapped.

When I start a chronograph function and reset it, it will completely overlap. However, if I move or shake my watch slightly, the top second hand will move a little from it position (Please see the pic).

Is this unusual and considered as a defect?
Is it possible to change for a new one?

Any comments are appreciated.

Thank you very much.

PS. Sorry about my English.

Looks like you have a dial defect as well. The word Chronometre has a horredous smear through it  unless my iPhone isn't displaying the image properly.

If it had that defect, I would return it straight away.

Thank you MartC

Smear on the dial are cause by plastic seal that I still did not take it off.

Do you have any comment about the hand?

I came to the authorized dealer and they say this scenario is usual because it is due to the engaging of the gear.

Welcome aboard.
It is a bit off, but it passed QC, so I'm not sure will the warranty be honored.

We see a few examples of chrono seconds hands not lining up perfectly at top-dead-centre on here, but seems more so with mechanicals rather than quartz movements.

Is this offset repeatable or random?

If your AD is not willing to accept that as a fault, then I doubt they will push the service centre for warranty work. Does your AD have another Chrono Colt to compare?

Hi. first could you post a photo of the hands directly over the centre of the hands, the photo you posted is very slightly off center which could distort the view of the hands ever so slightly. Second I have a friend who purchased a new Longines HydroConqueat in Turkey(AD) and when he came home it stopped working.. Any way he brought it into a AD and got it back and the hands were a lot worse than your which, he did not stand for it.. in no way should you either, on two counts 1) from a ABD 2) being a quartz. . .with regard the smudged writing again no way should you stand for it..... Let us know how you got on...

Looks like there must be a protective film on the crystal that has a nick in it

Thank you very much for all of your answer.

I already checked my watch with the service center. They said the second hand is able to move slightly due to the engaging of the gear. They refuse to exchange for a new one because the problem is very minor but accepted to fix it.

However, when I compare to another Chrono Colt II at another AD, both second hand are perfectly overlapped with each other and cannot moving even I shake it.

I am afraid that fixing the watch may cause more problems.

What should I do?

MartC:

1. Is this offset repeatable or random?

It is repeatable.
Every time that I move or shake the watch, the top second hand is able to move slightly from 12 o’clock position. While the bottom second hand is fix at it position.

2. Does your AD have another Chrono Colt to compare?

The service center doesn’t have it but another AD has it. Another watch doesn’t have the same problem as mine.

breanach78

The problem is the top second hand is able to move slightly from the 12 0’clock position. If measure from the top of the hand, it can move about 0.5 mm.

Thank you very much

Hmm, don't think I would be happy with a second hand that would move that much by shaking the watch either. A seconds hand sometimes has a small offset after resetting it, but this amount of play sounds more excessive.

If the service centre has agreed to a warranty repair, its worth getting it done IMO. Obviously a new watch would be better if its very new

I think its Breitlings policy to prioritise warranty work. In the UK, that results in approx 2 week repair time.

Did you buy in new? I never had any issues with regards returns or faults so there may be someone who else can give you advice there. I would have faith in the repairs that they carry out. That said if it comes back the same way do not stand for it and demand a replacement or a refund. That watch is listed in my ABD at e2875 so IMO it should be 100%. Second hand or not. Its sounds to me like the problem is with your AD not breitling. . I dont know what others here think but thats my 2 cents. .

There has to be play in a mechanical movement otherwise the movement would bind and not run - think about any system that has interlocking gears.

But.......

There is no way that moving the case should cause the hand to move within that play. Either there is a problem with the friction fit hand not fitting properly (i.e. it is moving slightly on the arbor), or (more likely IMHO) the arbor is not fitting properly within the movement - that may be a jewel problem, an end shake issue, a depthing issue, etc, etc. Either way it needs to be fixed.

The Chrono colt II is a Quartz. When you refer to a mechanical movement above do you mean a Automatic? or the gears in a Quartz?

Yes, I am aware that it's quartz, but that's just power.

There is still a mechanical running train to convert that power into the movement of the hands.

Thank you very much for all of your answer.

I have wrote an email to Breitling customer service at Singapore and they kindly help me to negotiated with my local authorized dealer.
Finally, my local AD has accepted to return my watch and refund my money back.
I already bought a new one from another authorized dealer.

I really appreciate all of your comments too.
Thank you very much

The AD that I bought my watch is King Power Duty free.
