Just purchased a new Breitling leather strap for my Steelfish. It's a real beauty and I'm debating whether or not I should treat the backside to minimize the effects of perspiration. With all of my other (cheaper) leather straps, I've always applied mink oil to the inner surface, but I'm a little hesitant to do the same with this one, just because it's considerably more expensive and the mink oil will permanently alter the appearance. At the same time, I live in a warm climate and feel like I should do something to address the perspiration issue.

Just to be clear, I'm only talking about the underside of the strap. Any helpful suggestions?

Not used mink oil, but conditioning isn't a bad idea. Breitling has a leather conditioner that you can sometimes get as a giveaway (they don't seem to sell it). I ride (horses), and have found some of the products designed for saddles work well. Currently liking Absorbine Horseman's One Step and Fiebings Four Way Leather Care.

The Absorbine is a cream - http://www.absorbine.com/products/leath ... onditioner and works really well. The Fiebings is a liquid / spray and I tend to use that as just a quick 'top up'.

I tend to use them on the back only, but they should be OK on the front too.

This may sound strange to you but I use decoration tape(for paint purposes) It is not uncomfortable - absorbs - can`t be seen - when worn out, replace it..... It preserves the inner from looking shabby... My strap still looks like day 1.....

Use the same high quality conditioner/cleaner as you use on your cars leather seats

Thanks all. I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't be committing a regrettable and irreversible mistake by treating the back of the strap, and it sounds like I wouldn't be.
