In a recent topic about fakes, someone suggested that they might consider wearing a fake, so as not to worry about the real thing being stolen. In addition to other objections, I responded that my watch is one of the last things I worry about being stolen, as it's physically attached to my person at all times.

So this got me wondering, has anyone had a watch--a good watch--stolen? If so, what were the circumstances surrounding this tragedy?

Actually there have been 2 threads in the last week where someone wanted to purchase a fake so as not to have the genuine stolen...makes no sense to me.

Oh and...no, I have not had any watches stolen.

Yes, I had a watch nicked from a locked changing locker at a Florida water park back in the eighties, not a real expensive watch but enough back then, still I claimed it on insurance and got the same watch, but two years less wear and cheaper.

Now a lot more careful and would not leave any of my current watches in a similar situation.

Remember a post a from a while back, I think it was from Taffytoon about a guy trying to mug someone for their watch, "unfortunately" for the mugger the intended victim was a pro boxer. :D

Yes, I have.
It happened at a very crowded, dark gig about 6 months ago. I was wearing my SOH on a deployant. Unsure of exactly what happened, if it was taken off my wrist or if during the energetic gig it had come loose somehow, but the end result was it not being there when the lights came up.
Got a full insurance payout and bought the same watch again.

Yep, while I was in "C" school for the Navy some douche-bag kicked in the door in my barracks and stole my TAG and my cologne. I thought about going around and sniffing everyone, but that would have been a little weird. I also agree with you about buying a fake, I haven't thought about that once while wearing my Blackbird.

I lost one whilst on Holiday in Hanoi earlier this year so at least one for sale up there is the real thing...

On the plus insurance eventually sorted it out though I had to wait for several months for them to cough up.

You can add watches as named items on homeowner's policies, and most companies will cover them outside the home as well.

Interesting, I am assuming the monthly payment is a % of the delcared value?
