Are Breguet's COSC?

Clearly not all of them or they would be on the list. I don't think that they submit any.

Which models do IWC certify?

What should one deduct from the optional participation in the COSC program?

I would Imagine if IWC doesn't certify watches it is by choice and not from lack of ability, but I havent had any experience with IWC. Do their watches run within specs?

COSC is simply an independent certification of a watch's accuracy (-4 / +6 seconds a day for mechanical). For Breitling they feel that it's a distinction from competitors, for others it's meaning less - it's just choice. IWC certainly produce a lot of movements (in house and generic modifications) that are capable of attaining the specs, they just choose not to for most (or all - I can't think of any that they choose to certify).

Correct - IWC do not certify any (I think) of their models. Their reason for that is that they claim that a mechanical watch should NEVER be slow and thus the COSC tolerance of -4 secs per day is not good enough for them. I think they allege that all their watch are 0/+6 secs a day. All very admirable, and I've love to believe them, but after 3 trips back to IWC my Big Pilot is still running SIGNIFICANTLY faster than +6 secs a day. But hey, at least it ain't slow!

There's a reason we used to call Rolexes the "lawyer's Timex." Go down to the courthouse on any given day and I bet most, if not all, the non-government lawyers are wearing a Rolex. Men usually sport Submariners or GMTs, and women generally wear two-tone or solid gold Datejusts. Except me. I wear a Breitling Airwolf Raven. :lingsrock:

But then, I work for the .gov, and pay for mine over a very long time.....

Frankly, I've only seen one Omega (a Speedmaster Professional) and a bunch of Tags other than the Rolexes and my Breitling. One of the judges wears an ancient Seiko qwuartz, tho.

Regarding total production numbers....is it safe to assume that the top 5 are in th same order, or do non-COSC cause Tag to jump Breiting

It looks like these numbers were definitely a result (and carryover) from our economic recession in 2008. We're slowly climbing out of the ditch (hopefully) so we should see these numbers rise steadily from here on out unless we see a crazy economic double dip.

I'm surprised with Rolex. I've never had any first hand experience with them but wow, they sure produce a lot of watches contrary to my (and I'm sure 99% of the public's) belief. Kudos to their marketing, PR, and advertising team for sustaining the image of this brand being rare and coveted. Oh resale prices, how do you stay up so high!?

No way to know for sure, but I would suspect that Tag would be higher - they aren't that far behind as it is and Breitling's totals are of course total production figures.

I was in traffic court some months ago. I'd been pulled over for...well actually, the details aren't important. This traffic court was rather informal. The prosecutor was wearing a Rolex GMT, and when I went up there, I complimented him on it. A week later when I went back, he remembered me for knowing what watch he was wearing. He said to the judge, "This guy's worked really hard to get everything with his license fixed. We're willing to drop all the charges." So I got out of traffic court without having to spend a cent. Now, I did work hard to get my license snafu corrected, but I like to think that my good fortune was owed in part to my ability to recognize a Rolex GMT from four feet away. :)
