Hello everyone! I feel that I need to post this, strickly for educational purposes!!!
Especially educational and valuable info for anyone out there who is interested
in buying a DSSD!!!

There is a REP DSSD out in the wild (retails for ~500$) that is sooooo identical to the real one
that anyone, and yes I do mean anyone can get fooled!

I was fortunate enough to see and feel this REP the other day and decided to snap a few quick pics
beside my real one 8) .

It used to be easy to spot a fake Rolex...Not any more!!! The movement sweeps, the date font is spot on, the weight is accurate its SCARY

I would say that this watch is 99% accurate (Externally  )

Please look at the pics, and be honest, which one do you think is the GEN

I went with the one on the right, but I cant say I am that confident in my pick. That is damn scary to know this watch is so well replicated this soon. Isn't the DSSD a new model?

I chose the left just to be different. I honestly have no idea.

But my question is, how do YOU tell them apart if you accidentally mix them up? Did you mark the fake somehow?

I think the one on the right is the gen. The pearl seems to fit the triangle better on the one on the right, and the bracelet on the one on the left seems to show a bit of a gap between the side and centre link which doesn't look like Rolex's build quality to me.

Additionally the date window on the one of the right seems more "crisp" and the date itself looks more central.

That said, any one of these "tells" could just be as a result of the picture, so I could be totally wrong.

I bet it's a bit easier to tell in person, but this certainly highlights that from pictures it's DAMN difficult. Buyers beware.

Wow, :wowzers too close for comfort, but the bracelet fit & finish told the story for me.

Photo is not great, but the pearl and bracelet on the left one are the giveaways. I'll bet this would be easier to tell in person given the build quality of the DSSD.

Also, I would be interested to see how the rep duplicates the clasp which is very expertly machined.

I think the right is legit. The font on the bezel doesn't look even on the left watch, the #2 is off.

I'll take the one on the right too, for the same reasons as D8 and Serge. The thing that seemed to catch my eye the most, before I read the other posts, was the date window.

Voted right is the gen. Ironically , it was the Rolex bracelet that gave it away for me. The one on the left sags just a little bit too much for my liking.

Goes to show you that even the relatively "chinsy" Rolex bracelets are still amazing quality when compared to the knock-offs.

DSSD replica (which is now upto its 5th or 6th version btw..) is incredibly close.

Add a few slight mods such as a bezel numeral repaint (more grey than white on the Gen), lume and oiling of the bracelet and its 99% there.

Here's my old V5 modded DSSD before I bought the Gen. The differences are very minimal.

One thing I dont like about the DSSD as a side note is the distorted and non AR crystal. Both the Gen and Rep suffer from this.

I actually saw one of these amazing fakes in person at a Pawn Shop last week. It was almost imposible to tell. It was so well made that the owner got dupped into dishing out $2,000 for it!

I also got scammed this week with a Fake Rolex Explorer II that I purchased online. Decent fake, what got me was that they forged the paperwork and had original box, tags, manuals, everything a real Rolex brings.

As I type this, I am waiting for the police to come over and type up a report.

Be very careful guys!!

I picked the fake based on the 12-oclock lume dot on the bezel, and something about the bracelet didn't look right. It was just a guess, though.

Hope this didn't cost too much.

Here is my DSSD replica. Hand-purchased in Bangkok (December 2009), for $120 usd.

The pictures I posted look fair and don't do it justice (if there is justice for a replica). This replica has the Rolex crown at the 6 o'clock position embedded in the crystal as well as the serial numbers on the lug. There are small pieces of lint or dust under the crystal and also the font is slightly different on the bezel numbers (than the original). The band is also slightly lighter on the replica. The case on this one is beautiful and well made. The dial looks terrific unless you study it under a loupe...then you see slight imperfections. It keeps decent time but not nearly as good as the real one.

The second picture shows the lume on the replica.
