call me crazy guys but i am starting to like Panerai more and more. i was in the store the other day and had the chance to try on the 104. Its a very basic model but it just works. i have never really been a fan of theirs but as of late they are starting to catch my eye. i like the fact that not alot of people have them where i live and they seem to be more of a niche brand.

I'd pass on the 104 and buy either a 299 or a 312

I was a longtime PAM HATER!! Said I'd never own one. Well I bought a 312 and freakin love it!!!! I want more but I'm going to take my time with building a Panerai collection. I'm totally addicted and it's only been 3 weeks. Good luck!

299 or 312....lol i am so new at this any way to post some pics of these?

@ The Engineer - i have been using the source, thats why im being pulled to the darkside...lol

edit - ok i saw the 312 and 299. i know this sounds stupid but i have to ask, what the big difference between these and the 104? they all have seconds, minutes, hours and dates. The biggest difference i can see is the date window does not have a magnifying glass on the 312 and the 312 has an open back??

There are a few major differences. The 312 has an in house movement, sandwhich dial, and 1950 style case with a display caseback.

I've been lusting after Panerais for about the past 18 months and got my first one about 3 weeks ago - a PAM 359 - http://www.luxist.com/2010/05/08/panera ... ina-watch/

My only hesitation with the 104 is the date bubble. As much as I love Panerai, I absolutely cannot stand their date bubbles and refuse to buy any of them :guns:

Panerais have a very unique look and I would encourage you to visit http://www.paneraisource.com - do a LOT of research before you buy - and like others before me, I've become addicted

Good luck.

The 299 is the 104 but comes on the new style bracelet.

I think I am in the minority here, The pan just doesn't jump out at me other than the lume. The watch just does nothing for me. This watch reminds me of a base model BMW 3 series, by the time you get a 335 the price is just nuts. I am not knocking pan at all, nice looking watch, just not for me. I like :lingsrock: ,and not defecting

( IN NO WAY AM I KNOCKING BMW, I LOVE BMWS WHEN THE WARRANTY HASNT EXPIRED) They make some fine autos!!!

MacApple i use to think the exact thing. im a huge breitling fan and i think their designsare amazing. the pam definitely doesnt jump out and scream LOOK at me. but their designs do seem to grow on people. as of late they are really starting to grow on me. theyre not for everyone, and i cant believe that i am starting to look at them as a possible piece to add but they are starting to draw my attenion more and more.

I thought about it ,and there are 2 other reasons the pam is cool to me ,but still wouldn't buy one. The multiple different straps that can be purchased for the pam is countless. The idea of having several options for a bracelet/strap is very nice. The other thing is the Pam looks like nothing else, you really can't confuse the watch with anything . The Breitling looks like that god awful Invicta brand, I don't see a throw up emoticon to use for describing that god awful looking watch. I would rather wear a Ninja turtle diver thats lime green than to wear a Invicta. These are my 2 reasons why the Pam is cool to me, if I defect to a brand it will be Rolex. My buddy traded me his sub for my Sa for the day , and the Sub is silky smooth., I just don't know if I could really wear a Rolex for fear of sounding like a douche when someone asks what kind of watch it is, people hear Rolex ,and automatically think you are a douche/Rich schmuck. The Breitling is low key ,and alot of people have no idea what a ling is .

You hit the nail on the head, they start to grow on you. Their dials might not scream LOOK at me but everyone will be staring at your wrist. I dont wear watches for compliments but i got more compliments in 1 day on my PAM than the 12 Breitlings ive owned over the years. They're simple, clean, and very very comfortable. Wait until you strap yours on for the first time....its over.

NOOOOOO!!!! Image

I don't know what people see in the basic model PAMs. 210? Almost fell asleep looking at it. Don't get me wrong, I think they make quality watches. I like the 251, 275, 213. Now that's more like it! Of course for that kind of $ I'd much rather get a Zenith or JLC. :strummin:

BTW I did try on a few of the basic models and was not impressed. I was hoping it would be different in person. Nope.

But that's just me. :)
