I have a upcoming life milestone, my second child on the way, :cheer: and have decided to mark the occasion with a new Breitling, any excuse I guess. I am undecided between four models from the Aeromarine range. The one I really want is I guess, in a perfect world is the Superocean on the pro II with the white dial which I would also purchase a brown/gold leather strap which IMO looks smashing. Now the problems starts, my local ABD which I visited today, had many models from the AM range but four in particular. The sales person was adement that there was a price increase from the 1st of August but as been a customer of theirs she would hold the old price for a few weeks to allow me to make up my mind and get the deposit down. BTW I do not intend to pick up the watch until march 2011. That give me a chance to save a bit of money for it but really I do not want to pick up the watch until the occasion passes of successfully.

So first question is is there a price increase upcoming or already in place? Is what she stated true? She claimed that on the watches I was looking at (all between e2000 -e2400) there was a increases of about e400! Was this sales talk to get me in and money down?

Second is the amount of discount offered to me ok? From reading here it goes from 10%-30%.
I am presuming that the 30% might only be giving in a store that would have a large turnover of Breitlings? My local ADB probably would not have a huge turnover so the best I can push off they around 10% is that acceptable? The deals been offered to me are- RRP first and all on SS bracelets, Pro IIs I think. Superocean e2300 down to e2100. Colt Auto e2180 down to e2000. Colt GMT 2345 down to e2145. I think I am a good haggler and I feel I would knock at least e100 more off all of the prices or else get they to throw in the leather strap at e125. Are these good prices or should I be looking/pushing for more off? If so what?

Third is probably the HARDEST of them all as they will only offer me the discounts on what they have in stock....HELP....what to do.. What do.. I do I really want a Auto but they have a lovely chrono Colt black/blue/white face... not auto but I do love a Chrono though!!!!!!...... A nice Colt auto white face but I feel its a bit small compared to the Superocean!!!!!!..... Two superoceans black/blue faces that feel super but not the white dial I really want, I am leaning towards the blue face one!!!!!!......and finally a Colt Auto GMT blue face... dial looks a bit busy but its only e65 more than the standard Colt Auto...

??????

Decisions Decisions I guess!!!

I remember a friend once advising me that "second best is still bloody expensive!". I reckon its best to wait for and spend a little more money on the watch you really love. Better that than spend a lot of money and forever look down at your wrist with a slight twinge of regret.

Any opinions on the discounts greatly appreciated????
I tried a different ABD today and the price increases are already marked up on all their stock. They said that they will not hold the old prices for me. She stated that they had a run of sales on the Breitlings before the increase.....

If a different AD already has new prices then I guess that confirms the price increase. Just figure out the 10% discount + savings by buying at the old price and see what type of savings you come up with. I have a feeling it should be decent since discounts on your side of the pond rarely get close to the 30% that you have read about (over here).

The price inscrease they state, which is imminent sounds way too high to me. Normally 7-10% is more typical. Will you be affected by the UK VAT increase next year? There's another 2.5% on top

The discounts aren't great, but very typical of UK AD's. 10% off is about as good as it gets unless you find something in the sale. I've been offered this from the large chains and smaller independents. I fully understand why they only want to discount existing stock though.

Its hard being limited to existing stock when none of them are 'exactly' what you want. I've bough heavily discounted sale models before and compromised on dial colour, but the 30-40% discount justifies it IMO. Could be worth looking on the website to see if any of the watches they have are now discontinued, see if you can bette rthe deal

With the increase that are coming in means the Superocean I am looking at will be giong up, here, to e2300 RRP to around e2800 RRP. Id say the sales person may have extruded the truth that a bit on that one! but definitely there have gone up by a couple hundred. My first choice would have been White/cream dial on The gold leather. But I think Blue looks best on the Pro II which they have in black+blue in the SO Steelfish. I am getting the SO for e2100 and the SO Steelfish at e2175. And as stated I will probably get a leather strap in on that, it might not be a breitling though. I think considering the price increase and the fact that on average I am getting a discount of 11.5% that I can not let this one go (have not decided yet) SO Blue or SO steelfish Blue/Black. Black and blue Probably look better On the Pro II anyway. Another major factor is the high (IMO) second hand prices most newer Breitlings are making. I would love to buy second hand but I could not justify paying 60%-70% of the new price for a S.H. Breitling a few years old.
So hopefully I will place a Deposit before the week end.

BTW there is only e75 between the SO and the SO steelfish....

What you Guys think..

I personally think the Steelfish looks and feels a lot more watch than the SuperOcean. Not just the weight, but IMO the dial is far better detailed. I assume you've tried on the different watches. You may find the Steelfish sits up off your wrist due to the deep rounded case back.
Worth pushing for a Breitling leather strap, I've tried a few others and always been disappointed

That may be the case when talking about dealers, but you'll regularly see the models you've mentioned going for ~half price here and ebay

Ya I like the Steelfish and the fact its 44MM but I feel the SO is better proportioned and probably look as big as the Steelfish. I don't agree with you on the dial! I think the SO looks better with its arrow hands. If the Steelfish had the SO dial I d Definitely have it. I will let post my decision when and if! I put the deposit down.....
