Hi there,
Since one month i am the proud owner of a CORAL emergency
brand new with the black OCEAN RACER bracelet.

The instruction-books says that the EMERGENCY is water resistant to 30 Meter,
but a question to all the EMERGENCY owners: Did you ever swim with your emergency watch?
In a swimmingpool of at the beach?
Because normally 30 M is good for splashing but not swimming!

I would not tempt fate as this will cost a pretty penny to fix.

Initialen: some on here swim/shower with theirs, others don't.

You said it yourself, 30M suitable for splashing, not swimming.

I personally wouldn't take the chance with such a beautiful watch. It's no hassle not to swim with it, so why risk it?

At the end of the day, it's up to you.

P.S. Is this question on a loop, or is it just me being here more than 2 months?!

I'd also say no although as others have said it is possible. My reaction is why risk it, especially when their are a thousand other options out there specifically made for diving. It could be a very expensive lesson.

I say go for it. Let us know how it goes...we'll finally answer this one and we can move on. Seriously, put our minds at ease, put my mind at ease. This could be the ultimate emergency water thread.

It's a shame Bear can't answer because he did jump outof helos into the ocean with his, but maybe he doesn't care about time...

At the risk of repeating my post from the other day (and a number of other posts in the past), then the rule of thumb is that a watch with a 30m WR rating is NOT designed to be suitable for immersion in water. It's as simple as that, and there are countless articles on the subject on the net, so it's not just a Breitling thing. 50m is the absolute lowest WR rating that I'd personally considering wearing for surface swimming, and if I was diving into the pool or sea, I'd want a minimum of 100m. (And if I scuba dived then 200m is the min). Bear in mind that while it may look more substantial, the Emergency has the exact same WR rating as the Navitimer, and we all know how water-phobic Navis can be.

Obviously there will always be people who will confirm that they have swum in their Emergencys (and Navis) with no problems at all, and that's absolutely fine - I'm not disputing that for a minute. However, I tend to think this is like someone who smokes 60 a day claiming that because they haven't personally suffered a fatal disease, that smoking is perfectly safe to do! Sometimes you're lucky, sometimes you aren't, but the fact is you are increasing the risk of a problem if you are undertaking an activity that you, or in this case your watch, fundamentally isn't designed for.

At the end of the day it's all personal choice what you use your watch for, but if you decide to swim in a 30m WR watch, be prepared for that fact that you may very well have a problem with it as a result, because you are using it for something it's not designed for. Swimming in a 30m watch is kind of like playing Russian roulette with 5 bullets in your revolver! But as the WR rating goes up, so the number of bullets in the gun (and hence the likelihood of "problems") reduces!

To me, it's a crazy idea. You have spent thousands of dollars on a watch that is specifically stated as not being water resistant enough for swimming. It's entirely possible that you could do it for years and not have a problem, it's also entirely possible that the first time you do it water gets into the movement and you have a repair bill for hundreds of dollars and are without the watch for 3 months or more.

I don't use the quickset date between 8pm and 3am and I don't swim with watches that only have 3 atmospheres of water resistance - no difference in my mind.

I wash up with my BB+ rated 300m (on the kitchen table).

Probably not (as indeed I don't either!), but then I guess he probably doesn't ever have to spend out several hundreds of dollars having his very expensive 30m rated watches dried out and repaired by Breitling either!
