Wow that's a nasty nasty accident, quite luck to walk away unharmed. Hope your wife is recovering. She may need that 243 a little sooner as a get well present.

The irony is I would have bought (or at least tried to buy) the one that got posted yesterday morning if I wasn't now faced with buying a new car.

Thanks for the good wishes guys, it's appreciated and I do feel lucky - upset and angry, but lucky.

Oh and Ian - the watches were fine

Whew... Good to hear everybody was, more or less, alright.

I've had a few close calls with some real idiots on the road. There might be nothing more infuriating than oblivious people behind the wheel... :guns: :guns: :guns:

Wow Roff! So glad to hear you & the missus doing fine!

I had a major accident from some a-hole who I believe fell asleep as he caroomed from the slow lane across 5 lanes to the fastpass lane, hit the car in front of me which spinned out of control. I changed lane & avoided him, but the van (full-sized) behind him couldn't stop in time, slammed into the out-of-control car which launched it right to my driver-side door. The cop said if I wasn't driving a mercedes, I probably wouldn't be walking out unassisted. The a-hole took off... :guns:

I'd watch for whiplash and funny aches (from your bodies' involuntary tensing prior to impact) that may manifest only in the next few days and even weeks, Roff.

If the jeep was totaled, won't you get full insurance to buy a similar-year replacement?

Yeah way too many a-holes with licenses. Glad it worked out OK for you too.

I'm pretty stiff and sore today and definitely have some sore neck muscles, my wife is doing much better today (though that may be the drugs  )

The insurance offer will be based on what they consider the current value of my vehicle to be, so in theory I don't need to spend any more money (assuming that the offer covers taxes, fees, etc), but realistically I'm not going to buy an exact same vehicle. I wasn't planning to replace the car yet, but if I have to (which I clearly do) then a car with almost 70,000km (44,000 miles) isn't particularly sensible, I'll get something with fewer clicks on the odometer. Good news is that the 2010s are being cleared out so I can probably find a good deal (because of course the insurance company won't pay for a rental for 3 months while I wait for a custom order).

Very glad to hear you and the wife are ok, Roff. That's all that matters of course, cars (and even watches!) can always be replaced.

Too scary. Glad you and Mrs Roff are ok.

Agree that these types of accidents make you upset and angry. Thee are an awful lot of dumb people out there that do really dumb things, and the consequences can be devastating.

This is also further proof that everyone that you shouldn't put off buying that 911, or that dream watch, or whatever else it is that you keep putting off till tomorrow.

Only just read this. Glad you're both OK.

Cars are just bits of metal. It's a bind replacing them but so long as you and Mrs Roff survived, that's the main thing.

Also a bit belated Roff but I'm very sorry to hear about the accident  and very glad that you're both okay! That's all that matters.
