I was visiting family in the Philadelphia area last weekend and I went to check out my old stomping grounds. I stopped by my local AD and to my shock and awe, they no longer have Breitlings! They were hush-hush about the reasons behind it but may have insinuated that there wasn't much turnover of the pieces. Not sure if Breitling pulled the plug or they were tired of carrying stock that wouldn't sell. Either way, it explains why I haven't recieved a catalog this year!

To add insult to injury, the case that Breitling once occupied is now inhabited by Hamilton. The new salesperson proudly explained the "success" they've been having with the brand. She then went to far as to say that Hamilton and Breitling "were essentially the same" :!:

All in all, a sad development.

Quick question came to mind. Does the old Breitling stock head back to BUSA for redistribution to other AD's or does the AD get to sell it off? I'll feel really bad if I missed a mass sell-off of pieces!

Hamilton and Breitling are basically the same huh?

I wish someone would have told me this earlier, so I could have saved some dough.

Usually ADs buy stock from Breitling so they own it to sell off as they see fit.

It sounds as though the AD felt that they needed to go downmarket a little to get the volume.

My AD in Virginia, told me straight up...Rolex pushed out Breitling and threatened to pull out if they didn't conform. My AD replaced Breitling with Victorinox (I don't understand)...

My local AD was allowed to sell off their Breitling inventory in a given amount of time. After that they shipped the remaining stock to the AD's HQ. I got 30% off my Steelfish because of this :D

I've written before of the muscling Omega did at my AD. Breitling had twice the display room of Omega. Tag had about the same as Breitling. Zenith had less than Omega. Now I'm pretty certain Omega wasn't concerned with Tag and doubt they feel they compete for similar customers with Zenith. So who was pissing them off???? Breitling.

My local AD still carries Breitling, but in the past year or so, theyve gotten rid of JLC and Cartier, and some others that I cant remmeber. I asked about it and they said something along the lines of nobody buying them, and that the Tissot and B&M that replaced them are super hot sellers. :poke: The salesguy also told me that they dont discount Breitling (he didnt realize that the owner offered me a VERY good deal before I spoke to him).

I've heard from AD's also that Rolex seem to have issues with sharing, which makes sense when you consider they like to dominate market share. My local AD here does coincidentally sell both Rolex and Breitling however they would also like to add IWC but can't apparently because of Rolex.

My AD has been offered the Rolex line, but was told that they would have to give up Breitling in order to take on the line. They told me that they will not do that (I hope it was not just lip service).

I would be crushed if they no longer carried :lingsrock: .

There is a Rolex AD here in town and Rolex is 99% of his watches that he carries. Even though, he carries Corum, Montblanc, and Carl F. Its something Rolex just demands of their AD's
