I think it's great looking. The best "new" model from Breitling in a while IMO - just too small for me.

I agree completely.

And Tim or Iantheklutz, feel free to pm me if you want me to have a look for you. :)

Out of curiosity , how much is the catalogue price asked for this one and what are the discounts the japanese Ling ADs give out in general ?

It's 1,449,000 yen - about $17,000 for the gold, not sure on the steel. Japanese ADs don't discount.

Stratos is listed for 1.449 million yen, equal to $ 16.9K. Discounts in Japan are easily counted - you get zero. All luxury retailers in Japan live by the rule that if it's a luxury item, you can afford list price. Also, as most people in Japan buy something to show they have the funds, there's not much point in discounting.

Edit: If I had read the second page too, I wouldn't have repeated Roff's post. :)

I think a lot of the desirability comes from the fact that we cant get them over here. Re-read the thread and youll see some negativity, but its somewhat ignored because the watch does have some good points.

Stratos in Japan only: They get all the good stuff. That color is perfect. Excellent dial layout. So rare.

Stratos in the USA: Just a color change, boooo. Too small. Too expensive. Why bring back an unpopular, discontinued model?

Im not saying im any better, just that the grass is always greener on the other side.

well and i would imagine as is clear the price has a butt load to do with it.

$17k x 50 $850k rrp which you are not going to get if you produced it for say the US or UK where you get 20-25% off on the LE and likely wont get rrp in japan as its not limited enough

not saying i like the idea but from a business perspective makes sense plus i bet BSA get a good extra margin on the run as its a requested LE

I think that is a very good point. The number of DBs over there relative to other locations is very frustrating for those of us that find that very appealing, but in many cases the simple use of a different colour is not going to be anything particularly earth shattering - it's the unattainability that increases the appeal.

Anyways , apart from the facelist , does the watch have something else done to it to have a premium of about 10.000 ? Or just the limited edition and the fact it is marketed for Japan make this so damn expensive ? Damn it , why did it have to look so good ?

It soesn't have a $10k premium - it's gold. It's actually fairly comparable to equivalent regular gold pieces.

I missed that part of it being gold . IT is still higher priced than LE offered here. The 125th anniversary Navitimer in rosegold , with a limited run as well ( 125 piece ) had a 10.000 euro catalogue price here and ofcourse take into account that a -25% off that price was also achievable . So , maybe not a 10.000 premium , but still a whole lot more than our L.Editions . Ofcourse , if the situation there is as Aleister says , it really doesnt strike me as completely uncalled for .

Love the dial colour, but for me the sub dials are just a touch too busy.

Nice looking piece and I'm liking smaller watches these days
