Consider wrath on its way  you need to wash that keyboard of yours out with soap.

I think what a lot of us "older" guys are looking for are "classics" and while at present Breitling do seem to be moving away from that type of watch, I think there is hope on two fronts.

a) they are making new models.
b) most brands after trying something new, and making good profits will then often go back to their roots.

Every time there is a post for a new model, I open the post thinking, come on this time, let me like it,..........no disappointed again, the B01 Navi???????? waiting and hoping.

So while it may be time to look at other brands, or finding those classics that we all want for our collections, lets keep opening the new model posts, with hope, and one day soon we will all be forming an orderly queue outside our AD's for the latest offering from the anchor and wings.

Hey stop pushing!

Ian.

Al, I join you in the grumpy old man dept. Although I'm "only" 47.

I've seen similar threads to this before, and I think many of us share similar feelings. I do think that some change is good, but I prefer the traditional models. Heck I wear my CA damn near everyday. I do like the SO II, just wish it were bigger, and LOVE the SOHC ltd editions. I think the brand should continue with the classics in the Navi and Aeromarine lines, and expand a little in the professional series. I still don't understand why the B-1 was discontinued, or why so many titanium models disappeared. But then again ALL five of my Breitlings are either limited or discontinued.........words from a dinosaur. :D

I was saying to a Pal earlier. On occasions I post after a couple of glasses, wake up the next day and think 'hell I posted a rude offensive post'.

Pleased that this thread does not seem to be that bad. I have really liked this brand for 20 years and do not want to move away (and I'm in the Brand loyalty Biz). So let's see, it's interesting to hear the forum's views.

Anyway bearing in mind my initial post was not as rude as I thought

........ARXX (sorry Roff and Driver8 had to be done)

20 years from now when breitling decides to move in another new direction, the current "younger members" will be the grumpy old men complaining about the direction of the company, and how Breitling is forgetting about the loyal, long-time customers and collectors.

And if that's true, then as a current "grumpy old man," in 20 years I will apparently be a senile, elderly 55yo getting spoon-fed applesauce, while my Navi World sits in a drawer somewhere, to heavy to wear on my feeble wrists.

I think Driver sadi it best really.

A few thoughts of my own.

1.) I think a lot of watch companies in the last few years have had to go with what is "hot" and what is selling to get through the economy hardships. That being said I think this why it has taken Breitling so long to incorporate the B01 in to some new models. I think their R&D was out on the streets trying to keep up with "the jone's" if you will. Yes, I think Breitling had to play catch up because a lot of the newest trends are things Breitling has not done before.

2.) I think Breitling has always done a great job of surprising us with something that goes back to their roots every now and again. This piece is usally a short few year run which makes some of us lust after them well after production has stopped. If you think about it, its a very smart marketing move for Breitling.

Also, I think that for the people that think they are getting up their in age (40-60ish) you have to remember your tastes are probably changing and what wouldnt have been such a dramatic change to a watch, a car, a home, a movie etc may seem to be more radical now because you have been used to something a certain way for so long.

Now with all that, I agree on a lot of the "we'll just call it a limited edition" comments etc, Breitling has done enough of this. I think it was to get through the tough economy, however I think it could end up having a reverese effect on their brand name. I also think that what a lot of people may think of when they say Breitling is getting away from most of their roots is the large SA or comparable models. This is purely a design that HAD to be made with how the scale of watches that is wanted even by some hard collectors of today.
