I need to get to a good AD and see these things in real life.

How about the XXII? This is my grail.

Shark...did you happen to see this one today?

Well now there are a few issues here. One, it's $18,200. Two, it's an LE and the rumors are not to expect much of a discount. That's pretty hefty. Three, no one really knows when it will become available. Four, I'm a little hesitant to break the bank for the first production run of a revolutionary warp speed movement in a watch that sat at Basel as a prototype. It may be my favorite watch from pictures and description though, but the issues take it out of the realm of possibilities for me.

As for using the word "grail," yeah I like all my watches. But the 2 watches I've listed just "do something" for me the others don't. It's not something that can be quantified or explained. Why do some people swear by the Alps and others would have nothing other than Banff? Maybe mfserge said it best - "It moved!" I can't do bette than George Cantstandya.

As for the FFF, it just has to be seen. It looks good to me in good pics - but in person!! Did you know the saphire bezel is almost concave? It's so cool. The action of the bezel is just sweet.

Don't be fooled by the website pics of the bezel color on the Type XXI. It has some brown hints, but it really is a metal grey. Not metallic - metal.

Anyway tonight I dream of watches.

How did the MC Chrono look on your wrist, size-wise? It's a great-looking watch.

Definitely curious. We have the same wrist size and I'm looking at the MC Chrono and Master Control Chrono at the moment.

I think im in the same category here (~6.75"-ish?)

The regular MC chrono looks great on me, a tiny bit small for my taste, but size and thickness are perfect as a watch that can be worn with a suit on leather, or to the beach on rubber.

The Diving chrono was just perfect. A shade smaller than my skyland, but the lugs are nice and short and it sits perfectly. When I tried it on, I told myself that it was a perfect sized watch for me. Its very light weight, but it still felt really good on the bracelet.

Thanks RJ. Yep, my wrist is 6.75'' or perhaps just a shade less. About one Seamaster bracelet link more than sharkman, anyhow.

There's a 44mm Diving GMT on another forum at the moment which I can't stop thinking about.

That 44mm is a limited edition of 1500 IIRC. After those were gone, the 46mm version was released, which AFAIK, is not an LE. I had a brief time about a year ago where I came very, very close to picking up the GMT or Diving Chrono. I had a deal made for the GMT 44mm but it fell through. The Diving Chrono is one of the watches that ive moved away from but always seems to make its way back into my mind. Maybe one day...

I think you answered your own question - yoy need to see them in person. From pics I was all over the IWC, but I in person not so much. I didn't expect much from the Breguet, but was wowed by it today. The dial has browish overtones but is mostly a brushed metallic grey.

Same deal with publicity shots of the Zenith Defy 43. Not so great until I held one.

Im in the same boat. I think I need to take a trip and see some of these in the flesh. Im sure the quality is "just there" plain and simple. Its the details that count sometimes.

Good info RJ cubed.

My wrists are about 6.75" also. I really liked the Master Control chrono when I tried it on (several times  ). It's simple, classy and elegant and would work well with either a suit or jeans. The 'issue' I have with the Master Compressor's are they are a lot bigger and 'louder'. Now in-and-of-itself that is completely fine. What I'm struggling to decide is whether I choose another 'standard' piece (for want of a better word) or get something different. I've nearly pulled the trigger twice but happy to still look about.

Time to go and look at that GMT Diver

Yes, I think it was 500 on metal bracelet, 500 on articulated rubber bracelet and 500 on rubber strap.

The Diving Chrono is a great looking watch too, although I'm not a fan of the date position and screw-down pushers.

By the way, thanks a lot sharkman, because of this thread I actually did that last night (dreamed I was waiting for the Fedex guy to show up, to be specific). As much as I love watches, they weren't my first choice of subject matter.

Bizarre! Last night I dreamed I was the Fedex man delivering a watch but Kim Kardasian opened the door....in pink boxer shorts.

Could this be Inception???

Are you sure they are regular screw downs? IIRC, they are a similar screw type to the crown lock. I dont think they need to be screwed down to be water tight, and since its only a half twist to lock them, you could essentially leave them unlocked at all times and it would look the same as if they were locked. I could be wrong though :geek:

No, I'm not sure. You're probably right. Time for me to go to the AD and play with one.

I think the rolex two tone sub with blue face and blue bezel would do it for me.

I, too, think the new Portuguese Yacht Club is one of the most beautiful, versatile watches available. It's got everything going for it -- including a basic price of about $15 grand. Might be a bit steep.....? :?

The most accurate representation of the amazing Type XXI dial I've been able to find. Note - in some light it has a slight brownish overtone. All the publicitypics/renderings simply miss the actual color of this 5 level dial.
