Thanks Driver, I actually hadn't planned to buy this watch just yet but as luck would have it a friend of mine did an impulse buy and once he got home decided he could not wear a 45.5mm, the store has a no refunds policy and, get this, does not release the warranty card on Patek Philippe or Blancpain watches for six months due to the hoarding of resellers in my region! So he couldn't sell it to anyone he didn't know.

Long story short, I ended up with the watch at 50% off, though I have to wait 6 months for the papers to be released :D

Wow, that's a great discounted price! I think I could just about handle having to wait 6 months for the papers if it meant picking one up for that kind of money!

PS - Looks just about the perfect size in your wrist shot.

Great looking watch! Quick question, is it COSC? and how is it "running"?

So far +1 to +2 seconds per day, quite accurate.

I have to say, now that I have been wearing the watch for a coupl eof weeks and got it under the loupe, it is quite the piece! The contrast between its history, design, and breathtaking craftsmanship is amazing! The only way I can think another watch can compare is, if Patek started making Luminors. this is by far the finest polished watch I have ever seen, and is certinely a bargain and then some!

I'm going to be trying on the FF flyback this weekend. Soon George and I will be in business on a FF. Well, not as soon as I would prefer. But soon.

Sharky, I gotta say i am not a fan of the Chrono version. For one thing, you lose the historic look and feel of the watch, for another you get a 48 power resevre versus the 5 day power reserve, the movement in the standard FF is superior IMO and is why the price difference is not that much!

Also, can you ask George if he can source the strap change kit please? might hit him up for one if he will ship to my region....

Sure I'll ask. There is a special strap change kit???

But I have to say I drool over the dial of the FFF. It may be I end up with the non-chrono version just because size may be an issue. At just over 45mm, it will be a close call. The only reason I'm trying this out is the lugs are extremely short and that may allow me to carry it off.

But I do want to try out the Breguet Type XXI - need to see the dial in person to see how "brown" it is. I've heard it doesn't look very as brown in person as in the website pics. I think the Type XXII, which still isn't available, is going to be too much $$$$. George would have to go through a sister store and it is a revolutionary LE and all. Don't think the discount would be sufficient to swing an $18,200 watch. Makes my fingers tremble just typing that number.

Never mind about geroge, it has been taken care of by a kind fellow member!

The watch wears smaller than 45mm in my opinion, closer to 44mm.

Kudos on the review, but am I the only one who's not really feeling this watch? :| I like the case though.

WITHOUT QUESTION, YES! Wait for some of Altair's famous digital SLR and great lighting, then you'll likely feel it.

I can see how someone might not get it. I mean me honestly there are other pieces out there I would rather spend my money on that have a rich history to them also. However, this history trail is by far towards the top of any watch out there. Its history like this that is beginning to really interest me and getting me excited about watches in a whole new way. If only money werent a factor. We all know how that goes.
