I can't believe I just paid 165 dollars for a new bracelet clasp for my 1992 Aerospace. The clasp isn't even Titanium, it's just steel. Just the Clasp, not the entire bracelet.

This takes some real serious attitude to charge 165 bucks for for less than an ounce of steel. It did include shipping and insurance.

I ordered it through EB Horn in Boston. Was I taken to the cleaners? Was there a better way to get this part?

Help me and everyone else here by giving me a clue.

You know what? I voted yes to this one!
The nearest I've bought to a new bracelet clasp is a couple of deployant clasps for my straps. Over here they are £135 ($270) each, and there is less metal on a deployant than on a bracelet clasp. So your $165 (£82ish) is bargain (relatively speaking of course!)

Dave, I voted Yes as well....
Think about it, it's not just the steel you're paying for, but what it takes to bend and mold that steel into a clasp. The price of the machinery required to make all that stuff is what needs to get paid back...

I voted a crime... ok my background is of Aerospace Solutions Architect... so.. i have some involvment in manufacturing processes... and here it goes...

I estimated that for this clasp to be design first mould created and put into practise will be about 400 man hours (MAX).. (based on 40 hour a week that 10 weeks)..... and if the clasp are universal/ish... depending on production cycle...

Basic estimate... for paying someone to design and creat mould will be about... say £10,000 (for an established company, for a new company easily double this figure due to the learning curve) obvioulsy electricity and such are not taken into account...

so it will take about 118 of these things to break even for the design process...

if they have one guy working on this for say 8 hours a day and produces..10 of these (in my opinion figure will eb atleast double this about ) and this guy is earning top wack for a technician these day (£20 an hour) then company makes... £470 profit per day...

I think point i am trying to make is that though I woudl buy it.. i do belive lings are in positions of marmytes... you either love em or dont know enough about watches to care!! so they charge whatever they want.

Base on my recent post i asked for prices of a pilots steel braclet for my chrono evo... and price was 790!! ummm.... that is most peoples...watch.. I am fortunate enough to be able to afford it... but it is expensive.... but then again would i consider buying 37K for BMW if it was called a ford? ummm no... but my answer (phew) is still too much...

I voted yes. Although it is expensive, it is to be expected when buying a watch that costs so much money.

If that were truly the case, then why doesn't Seiko or any other maker charge that? I believe you get what you pay for, but there is a point where profit is excessive.

Wow, £217 is quite a bit for a hollow centred link!

Rolex are a bit cheeky on the length of their bracelets too. My Submariner only just fitted me on the standard bracelet length and adjusted as far out as it would go on the fine adjustment.

I started researching straps and clasps in anticipation of my pending new arrival and was actually pleasantly surprised - list for a deployant here in Canada is only $220. That's from last year's price list, I don't have this year's yet, but that seems like a pretty good deal to me.

Like everything else replacement pieces are always subject to higher mark up than complete units, but I don't think Breitling rips consumers off.
